Bucky Brooks gives us a B-

NFL Executive

I think that is a pretty solid grade. Overall I'm happy with the draft we had with the picks we had. We got Otah last year for our 1st rounder this year, so essentially our first rounder this year is a player with a years experience.

People, Bucky included, seem to forget that this draft indirectly was about securing Otah (albeit last year), and Brown. This does really not equal a B- to me. It would have to be a B or B+, just for that fact alone.

In any event, letter grades from sports pundits (scout experience or not) is like shark chum for the fans. It's a small meal. We'll take it. But in the end it means about as much as the Wonderlic Test.

I gave the Panthers a b+ after everything had settled. We got Brown with 43rd pick (scout had him ranked as the 2nd best DE and the 9th best overall prospect in the draft), Martin will contribute at Nickel and may end up stealing the starting job from Marshall before the end of the year. Goodson is a good Backup and STer. We might have him return Kickoff's this season and maybe give him 3 or 4 carries a game with his speed and the rest of the runners on the team he could get big chunks of yards in a hurry.

My favorite two picks of the draft were actually our 4th and 5th round selections of Fiammetta and Robinson. Fiammetta will end up as the starter in a year or two (leaning towards just a year) and Robinson has a chance to come in and steal the job from Vincent this year.

Brown, Martin and Goodson will contribute for sure this season.

Robinson has a chance to get the starting nod, will Fiammetta will learn from Hoover and take his job in a year or two.

I'd say getting 5 Potential starters out of a draft is a good draft any year.

Brooks has worked as an NFL scout (even worked for Carolina at one point) and seems to know jack when you listen to him, so I take is opinion seriously.

He started his career out of Carolina as a 2nd round choice of the Bills. 93 or 94 I think? he had great speed, but his route running wasn't that good. I agree he has been around enough that his opinion is worth listening too.

    • The issue is the formula is secret, and it incorporates runs... So... Yup, it does. Same with PFF (which isn't quite as secret). But when it doesn't - like on Sunday - it's often to hilarious results. PFF is more reliable I think at matching my 'eye' test.
    • According to the talking heads of the sports world, this is a pretty meh QB class.  Sanders and Ward are the only two with first round buzz, but the rest are blah.  Take that for what you will. Let's see how Bryce does in year three.  That's just where we are.  Patience is the key here.  Players need time to develop.  They can't develop if they don't play.  Bryce has made some really good throws, but he doesn't look like CJ Stroud.  That's going to be his point of comparison the rest of their careers.  The ball doesn't explode off Bryce's hand, it's not a cannon ball shot out of a cannon.  He's not going to break a 70 yard run.   Bryce is going to have to continue to make good throws and make plays.  Part of that is going to depend on the play calls.  Part of it is based on the skill players.  A couple drops picked up yesterday and it's a win and Bryce throws 1-2 more TDs.  A completely different story. It's been a crazy year indeed.  I just want to see Bryce continue to develop.  To see XL become more consistent.  To see JT fully recover (not play this season if he's not healthy).  I want to see Coker continue to make plays.  I'd love to see Brooks get more touches and Chubba continue to hammer defenses. Then this approaching offseason, let's go back to the D and work on fixing it.
    • Prime is already gone boss.  Nothing left for team Sanders in college football.
