erm... so what?

doesn't really matter whether these guys get paid immediately for putting down their john hancock or waiting for the season to go by.

guaranteed money is still guaranteed.

edit: if the owner owns manchester united he won't have trouble paying these guys even with zero revenue stream from ticket sales.

You always give signing bonuses because you can prorate it over contract life and it's professional thing to do. When you don't, you got money issue. Even practice squad players get signing bonuses.

yeah, without the signing bonus to prorate the cap hit it significantly increases the hit these guys will have for 2012. Really hurts the amount of ammo you have to go out and get guys this year but hey, guess you've got to do what's best for Manchester United lol

Yeap, in soccer you have to buy players and you pay cash (upfront) and you pay big. Upwards $100m for 1 player. Manchester United midfield is old as hell... Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes... I see Manchester United spending close to $100m in soccer free agency. Manchester wants Sneijder $50m and Eden Hazard $60m.
