WR Steve Smith? Throughout the lockout there were rumors of teams such as the Ravens, Chargers and even the Bears making an offer to get the veteran out of Carolina. But according to reports, Smith is back in the mix. A true No.1 receiver—with down the field speed—outside of the numbers. Someone that will go make a play for the QB.

Actually a good write up.

I hope a team mate prints this off and slides it under his door @ Wofford!

WTF are you talking about? That was a compliment to Smitty...that with him we have a legit #1 WR with down field speed and can stretch the field on the outside (outside the numbers....between the numbers and the sideline).

How did you read it?

the whole thing was pretty complimentary towards everyone, even if it was a little ill informed about the work that newton has done to prepare.

btw, referring to this:

I don’t know how much we will see rookie QB Cam Newton early in the season for the Panthers without any offseason coaching and film work. It is going to be tough to get him acclimated to the pro game during the month of August alone.
most people seem to be overlooking the work he put in at IMG with weinke. it wasn't like he was sitting around doing nothing or just working out in a gym.

he got a good solid grasp on the playbook and ran through a lot of it. worked on the cadence and calling the plays. it would have been better working with chud and shula and his WRs, but i don't think he's nearly as behind as people think.

to be fair, the author did say good things about newton:

As for Newton? I think highly of the rookie and do believe he can be a unique talent in this league. A superior athlete. Now it comes down to coaching. But when he is ready, this offense is shaping up to give him the talent to succeed and play good football.
