Panthers hire police to keep media out of workout

how about they just don't want to be bothered by the nagging and butt-hurt press pissed off that they still aren't allowed at practices? too easy?

seriously...let them have their time together. i know i would like to know what they are doing, but i'm willing to miss out on that so gantt can whine about something he's not even covering anymore and the reporters can find out that they aren't as important as they think they are.

Wouldn't the players have to cover the costs for the police security? I would think if the Panthers were paying for it, it becomes a gray area on whether it is a team organized function.

players paid for the security...

from the article:

Players hired a police officer to shoo away reporters from the high school where they were working out Tuesday morning. Cones blocked another entrance to the field at Charlotte Christian.

very true. This is all a circus act at the moment. They wont run the same drills, have position coaches, have appropriate trainers etc... Even Cam throwing to a w/r is worthless. No one is coaching the sharpness of routes, QB timing, footwork etc.. I am glad they get to toss the ball around but that is really the extent of the "learning." I hope people dont blow this pick up game into anything other than what it is.

This is just a good tool for team unity and relationship building. IF anyone actually thinks that these guys are going to be out there behaving even 25% similar to a training camp they are crazy.

I also hope they dont try and act like they are really training for a real football season/game. I dont want Cam embedding some bad habits with Gettis and Lafell before he is even coached by our staff. Not to even mention the fear of injury with a complete lack of trainers and stretchers out there. I know there are some trainers out there but the ones who work with DTs vs WRs is night and day.

circus is media created, though. players are just trying to get together to get their minds focused on what the panthers are going to be doing this year. they have playbooks and no doubt will be working on what they have. many (probably most) learn better in group settings and then they'll have a chance to see what it looks like on the field and try to implement it.

sure, it would be better with coaches...but these guys are professionals. they know what they are doing. they aren't just a bunch of guys off the street pretending they are something they are not. they have enough vets who know how these things go. very likely that they have brought in a couple coaches to help facilitate and run things in the training room and on the field.

people are getting worried and worked up over too much. too many molehills turning into mountain ranges. these guys know what they are doing. they'll have a better grasp of the playbook when they are done and they will have developed/strengthened chemistry between them.

the layers aren't doing this to make fans/coaches/owners happy. they certainly aren't doing this to make the media happy (or just to piss them off, they just aren't worth the bother). they are doing this so that they 1) can learn the playbook together, 2) to work together as a team, 3) so they won't be so far behind when football starts back up, and 4) just get back to the game.

Smart move - I can only imagine the media frenzy with Cam there. One incomplete pass or dismissal look and it would be front page news that Cam isn't getting along with team or he can't comprehend playbook. They would report something stupid like that.

Gantt and Reed seem pretty pissed off that reporters weren't allowed in today.

3 dozen players attended. Jimmy Clausen was seen leaving after practice. Reed talked to Gross. So thats two of the three dozen we know. ;)

I don't blame them for keeping it private, but I am dying for football news.
