Steve Smith Chat Wrap From ESPN

This happened a few days ago, but I didn't see it posted. Maybe it was and I just missed it. If so, feel free to act like a nerd and point it out to me!

Some interesting notes..

Steiny (NYC): Would you call DeAngelo Williams a major Pro Bowl snub?

Steve Smith: No, not yet. A lot of the guys that got picked over him did the same thing that he did for a few years. We have a lot of Pro Bowl RBs in the league and you can't take all of them...it takes a year or two to get your chance to get in.

J: Where would you draft yourself next year in a fantasy draft?

Steve Smith: I would draft myself in either the second or third round.

Geoff (NY): Steve, do you think there is anyone in the NFL that can cover you one-on-one?

Steve Smith: I think there may be a few guys. But this league is not really about one on one coverage like it used to be.

Steiny (NYC): What are you guys going to have to do to beat the Arizona Cardinals?

Steve Smith: Well the D needs to stop the passing game and if they can do that, the offense needs to capitalize on those opportunities they give us.

i like smitty's harsh honesty on the d-will question, but have to disagree with him. the pro-bowl is a year to year award not a career award or culmination of 2 or 3 year award. d-will > portis.

That's just his style. I think he would say the same thing about himself (even though he made the Pro-Bowl in his rookie season).

No, it's about gaining recognition and sustaining it. Right now the fans know DeAngelo's name, next year if he's among the league leaders he'll be a shoe-in. Had they known his name last year, he would have been in this year.

everybody knows the probowl is popularity contest. its like running for class president in middle school. geez!! if DeAngelo continues his level of performance for a string of years, he'll be in the probowl for at least one more year after that performance comes to an end IMO.
