Wilson, N.C. — A man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend and then turned the gun on himself in a murder-suicide Wednesday morning in the 4200 block of Iroquois Road, according to Wilson County sheriff's officials.

Sheriff Wayne Gay called it a domestic violence situation and said the 24-year-old woman attempted to get a restraining order against her ex last year, but never followed through.

Authorities did not release the names of the deceased. The woman had four children – three of whom with her ex. They were not home at the time of the shooting.

Investigators said they believe the woman returned home Wednesday morning after working an overnight shift at a tobacco company.
