Hwy 64 in TN might be closed for awhile...

I drove thru there last April, and it is a beautiful area. Its going to be tough to go from SE Tn to North Carolina now with both 64 and I40 being closed.

On a more serious note, so...it looked like they were trying to bust up one rock and then, while they were doing that, the entire mountain fell? Is that what happened?

Did they use TNT to bring down the rest, so that they wouldn't have more slides?

The hoe ram was in the road busting up the big rock, and I believe they noticed small slides starting, and they pulled back. I couldn't believe the size of the rock that seemed to float across the road. Easily the size of three cars.

Slides in that area are a constant problem. Notice the dip of the rock formation towards the road? Same way I-40 is in that area. I can understand it was probably easier to build the road that way, but damn someone should have had a little foresight.

Its a blessing this didnt happen in July at noon. The slide actually happened at the put in ramp for the Ocoee. In the summer its crawling with Boaters.
