Official Free Panthers/Steelers Tailgate Thread

Thursday night Sept. 3rd in downtown Charlotte the Carolina Panthers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the last preseason game of the year. This week's menu will be a full Mexican buffet including the following: Nacho bar and tacos with the following garnish: Chili, taco meat, yellow nacho cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, onions, cilantro, sour cream, homemade guacamole, homemade salsa, jalepenos, and a big ass bottle of zantac.

This week's sponsor is poster bigfan and his company, www.TheRealTicketGuy.com. Please visit his site for any and all of your ticket needs. Big Fan has been posting on this site for sometime, is a Vietnam Veteran, and has been most gracious in sponsoring this week. Because of his generosity, the food is provided free and this means that the 100% of the donations made this night will go to Toys for Tots. To date, we have donated over $15000 worth of new bikes (over 500) to the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive at the stadium. This would not have been possible if not for our sponsors and everyone that shows up. Here's the rest of the details:

1. Where? Our Free Huddle Tailgate is at a parking lot that borders Church St, Poplar, and 3rd St. downtown. The lot is right across the street from Picassos's downtown. Specifically in that lot our tailgate is closest to the corner of Poplar and 3rd. right on the sidewalk. We have 3 tents and lots of Carolinahuddle.com banners to help you locate us. We are RIGHT beside the lower entrance to this lot.

2. When? This week we will start at 4 pm.

3. What will be there? Lots. We have plenty of tents for cover from shade or rain. We provide for free all the food and free drinks included: Cokes, Diet cokes, Sundrops, Diet Sundrops, and waters. There will also be plenty of music and good people.

4. How much? If you park in that lot it's $30. You DO NOT HAVE TO PARK THERE TO PARTY WITH US! There are many lots a few blocks back that are MUCH cheaper, even down to $5. Take advantage of that or take the train into town for a few bucks. To tailgate please donate as much as you can til it hurts. Please be generous and consider how convenient our tailgate makes things for you and how much you save vs. going into the game and buying all this or trying to do it yourself.

5. Who is there? Most of the people there are people on this website and their friends and family. All of us were new at one time or another. Please don't be shy if you've never been here before. We make friends easily. We give our food and non-alcoholic drinks away for free to ALL.

6. Is this tailgate kid friendly? We do not police adult behavior before football games. We do not take responsibility for what kids may see or hear during the tailgate. Generally most adults mind their manners around them, but you never know what they may be exposed to during their time there so use your own judgment.

7. Are opposing fans ok? Yes, we are one of the only tailgates out there that host any and all fans and give their food and drink away for FREE!

Most important please bring your own drinks if you want alcohol. The Official Huddle Tailgate does not in any fashion provide alcohol as part of its tailgate. We do not accept responsibility for anyone's actions as a result of what they consume at a tailgate.

Can't decide if I want to go out and watch it or stay "home" and watch on the Jumbotron

I am 100% staying home for that one. I get to distracted out in a bar and really want to watch the game. Plus the Eagles are playing on the NFL network that night and I must admit that I am interested to see what Vick does in half a game.

    • I honestly didn't like trading up on the 2nd to draft a RB with a torn ACL. That didn't seem like a great move for this roster. But it wouldn't be a bad move if he proved to be a quality starter. But now signing Chuba to starter money on the hells of that? Yeah, that's significant roster building assets tied up in the RB position which has been a hallmark of the Panthers' roster building thought process over the years which has led to zero sustained success on the field.
    • But it's not a plug and play like teams were thinking.  Ask the Cowboys and the Bears thinking they were fine letting Montgomery walk.  Ask the Texans who had to trade for Mixon because their backfield held them back.  @Bear Handsbroke down the top running teams in the league and they have a very similar allocated of money/investments in the RB room.  It's a $15 million guaranteed contract over 4 years.  IF we are paying him the full 32 then he is playing very well and earning 8 plus million a year over 4 years.  I don't think we are doing the starter/backup scenario.  Our OC even said he has plays featuring both backs in the backfield.  We are trying to be a RB committee with a RB room that isn't that expensive compared to the league average.  IF Chuba plays to his top potential and we pay out all money he will average between Stevenson and Swift's average salary.
    • I'm just reporting it, not getting excited.  That will no doubt go down with new contracts. But because we've been drafting so many busts, there's no one in house to extend lol.  Could be spent on a lot of known resources.
