kiper doesn't think panthers should take tackle at 28

Oh you know people are setting themselves up to throw fits. Going to be tough for an amazing talent to slide to 28. It's essentially a second round pick that people are treating as sacred as a top 10

That's the thing people forget. IT IS THE 28TH pick. You basically are picking in the second round. Might as well take the next best player available in the second round with the 28th pick. Unless some great talent falls to us, which I doubt because the Stains have the pick right before us so if someone does fall they will pick them, there is no chance of us not taking the best available player at our range, which includes the best players in the second round. It's not a reach when you're 4 picks away from the second round.

It's also the perception that people think the Panther's board matches nfldraftscout or other sites that we fans visit often and get accustomed to. Yeah DBD is great too and some players do stand out but resources are scarce compared to what teams access.

We don't know how well they retain play books, understand schemes, take and retain direction or any of that. It's too complex to state that "certainly player x is there in the second for us" yeah he could very well be a 2nd rounder around the Internet but is he a second round sliding towards the border of the 3rd where we pick? Is that even how he'll pop up on team's boards? Who knows. But it will be that way for us every round (pushing towards being an early next round pick) value wise.

Cooks, OBJ, and Lee are the only WRs I would take above Moses. Even if he does just become a RT, maybe we find a vet LT after cuts as a stop-gap and actually have a running game next year. For me, OT is still the number 1 need but I obviously wouldn't hate a play-making WR. I'm just worried if we wait, we could wind up with another Kugzilla type experiment at 60 or in the 3rd and are completely fuged on the OL next year. No matter what new WR we draft, Cam won't be throwing to him from his back.

OT is deff our number one need but the OT talent at the 28th pick is no different then 2nd are 3rd. You will be getting a starting RT. I do not see a LT unless you are picking top ten. But hey im no gm so it doesn't matter what i think.

Moses and Kudanjo's biggest knock universally is they're both questionable pass defenders and are susceptible to speed rushers. Does that ring any Bells?

I've seen multiple scouting sites say they both project as RTs in the NFL but have the upside to play LT. Both need to focus on becoming better Pass Blockers in the NFL. Do you realy want that at LT next season at 28 though?

On top of that a LOT of draftniks are saying Kudanjo's knee concerns, "cleared" or not could ake him slipto the second, or even third, why not take him there?

That being said if Lewan isn't there I wouldn't mind "reaching" for Antonio Richardson over Moses and Kudanjo if we HAVE to go OT at 28, much more consistent pass blocker, strong and athletic and honestly he's my 3rd favorte Tackle in the draft.

but christ half of ya'll would be on his nus right now if he flipped it and said he sees us taking a OT in the first and waving it in everyone's faces

he's human, he's hit and missed on prospects just like all GMs and Couch GMs have. He's studied up on a lot of fuging prospects and makes his assumptions on what e's seen.

But okay it's whatever

I just dont see how people think Moses is clearly better than some of the tackles projected lower like Turner, Hurst, Richardson, and Mewhort. I think those guys are just as good.

Agreed. I'm just not convinced that he can play LT int he NFL. So yeah, I would even take Lattimer, Robinson, or Kyle Fuller over Moses. Guess I agree with Mel Kiper (shock horror!).

According to anyone who isn't blind. Why the hell would we waste our 28th pick on a RT? We could easily take a guy like Bitonio in the second (who shows more potential in pass protection).

Go actually read the reviews on Moses and you will find that most talk about how he definitely has what it takes to play LT....most even saying ready from day 1.

There is a whole thread with reviews from many sources that support this.

This tone of the year is the most amusing. It is funny during the year when idiots on here think they know more than an nfl coach or GM. But, it reaches epic levels when those on here think they can evaluate and grade talent...some even giving grades on prospects of what round they should go in.

News flash....there is not one person on this board who even comes close to having that skill.

Amen to that....!!!!!   The only thing that worries me about Cyrus is the knee issue and the fact he struggled at the combine and in the post season bowls.

Especially this draft.  Good God no one has any idea what is going to happen.  28 is such a crappy draft spot.  All the surefire future stars are gone.  Now you have to do your homework and either make a good pick or trade out.

I read everyone ideas on who we are going to take and I still haven't been solid on any player like I have been in the past.   I just cannot wait till that weekend gets here.

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
