Goddamn it would be epic if we traded Hardy on draft day. I mean, just think about it. A team in desperate need for a pass rusher is gonna give up a player and a couple of picks, or just a few picks (2nd and 3rd this year, and a 3rd of 4th next year maybe? something like that?). IF that happens, and IF that team is a team that is bad enough to have a low pick, we could make out of this draft like gangbusters. Draft our needs offensively in the first 3 rounds with like, 4 or 5 picks while using one or two of those to pile on depth to our highly talented defense? Yes please.

...or it just means that David Gettleman is doing his due diligence on players at every position to make an educated pick based on talent in each round. Especially with a heavier weight placed on DE's as he wants to have a great rotation because that is where he thinks games are won.

There seems to have been a focus on our need positions, but we have talked to MLBs, Cs, etc. so he is doing his due diligence.  I have not seen much interest in RBs, for example, but I have seen a ton at our need positions.

I think they are looking at the DE market because they cannot afford $30m at the position when Cam needs a deal.  In addition to possibly losing Hardy, we are probably losing Alexander in 2015.

Due diligence for sure as a run on WRs seems likely latter part of the 1st through the end of the 2nd. Gentleman is looking to replace whichever DE isn't here in 2015. CJ will be 29 at the start of 2015 with 2 yrs remaining (avg of $10.25MM/yr) and Kraken will be 27 and who knows what contract he will have. Why not find the replacement this year, let him get a year of rotational play under his belt and develop him, rather than throw him to the fire next year. Imagine if we had Keenan Allen last year.....do you think the panic would be the same this year after we lost who we did? Planning a year or two out makes great sense and is the exact analytical mind we need Captaining this ship.

A move like this means CJ's replacement IMO...unless Hardy signs elsewhere. Doubtful in my mind on Hardy, as we'll use CJ's money after he's cut to lock up the Kraken. If CJ is willing to take a paycut (doubtful) to stay, we then use a potential promising DE draft pick to replace Hardy and save tons of cap space in the process.
