Raised voice works fine enough for my dogs. If they piss on something or chew something up they get a finger pointing or a light tap on the nose.

my animals are my kids...no beatings required if you raise them correctly right from day one.  if they do something wrong....it's your fault, not theirs.

I beat my wife for discipline.

I've got a 4 year old german shepherd. I have never beat him, but would grab his side a certain way to get his attention. He understands this means stop and pay attention to me. His number one goal is to please. That's why I have a german shepherd.

It's sometimes hard to give training advice without knowing about the dog's history. Rule of thumb is consistency. You should never beat your dog.
