Most of the questions about Matthews had to do with speed. He ran a sub 4.5 40yd dash at the Combine. He's a guy who always seems to be at the backburner of peoples' minds, because he isn't the sexiest of picks. Like Fiz has said on these forums before, if you watch Matthews play, you basically see a receiver who would've been considered an elite player in 1990. He's that type of receiver. His game is completely different than any other prospect in this Draft.

Matthews is going to be a Pro Bowler, I'd almost guarantee it, barring any injury or set-back.

I think speed was a part of it, but it's also his lack of explosion and that he has to build up to his speed.

It wasn't just about speed. He has difficulty separating at times too. Matthews is a good prospect, just not someone I would feel comfortable taking in the first.

This could be interesting.

The Panthers are "very high" on Nevada OL Joel Bitonio, according to draft insider Tony Pauline.

Per Pauline, the Panther have visited Bitonio on two separate occasions and the Bucs are "enamored" with his skills. Bitonio projects at tackle or guard, and he did very well on an island this year against Anthony Barr and Demarcus Lawrence. The end of the first-round is a real possibility. Apr 23 - 11:18 AM

Not really.  A sub 4.5 doesn't indicate how long it takes him to get up to full speed, nor does it effect explosion.

well what about his 39.5 vertical?running a sub 4.5 with that type of vertical screams explosive, especially in a 6'3 215 pound body.

edit: nevermind, i thought you was talking about Latimer.i agree about Matthews, he does not play with any of that explosiveness displayed with his 40.

Greg Cosel, I think, was the one talking about Matthews not having the explosion to get separation when the ball arrives.  He said because of that, he will have a lot of contested passes.

The more I read and hear, the more I am starting to like Latimer.  I recorded one Indiana game on replay and have another in queue to record from this past season.  So when I get a chance to watch them, I'll be able to make my own judgments and decide whether or not I'll be happy with him at 28 (if we indeed go that route).  However, my only worry is that after watching, I'll fall in love with him as our pick only to have someone a spot or two above us $natch him up...but then I always worry about that with whoever is my hot prospect of the day.
