2014 Coach of the Year

I know theres another topic about it, but that one focuses on Coach Clifford

Personally, I feel it shouldve gone to Hornacek. Everybody knows what Pop has been able to do in San Antonio, but Hornacek took that suns team to a completely different level.  To end up only one game out of the 8th seed in the west, after that Phoenix team was awful last year is pretty spectacular.

Obviously Thib in Chicago did amazing work with his superstar being injured again.

My personal rankings would've been

1) Hornacek

2)Thib

Tie at 3) Pop and Cliff

Like I said, what Pop's been doing is no surprise to anyone.

No doubt he deserves it with his team record and coaching again. I feel it should have gone to Hornacek though... If Suns made playoffs I think it would have. This is the reason why it should only be players/coaches/management voting and not sportswriters for these awards.

I have no problem giving Pop all the props in the world. I think he's consistently one of the best NBA coaches that we've seen. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around giving a guy whose team was basically one shot away from being NBA Champs the COY award for getting them back there again. The Spurs are good and have played great this season. But really COY?

I thought it should come down to Cliff and Hornacek. Both of those coaches have gotten their teams to overachieve. Of course I'm a Hornets homer, but taking the Bobcats to 43 wins while Big Al was out for 20 games (and it's become obvious how important he is to their success) is one hell of a coaching job.

Coach of the year is odd. Do you give it to the coach of the best team? Phil Jackson has 10 more championships than he does Coach of the Year awards. Do you give it to the most overachieving team? History shows it generally takes at least 50 wins to get it. Only once since 2000 has the winner had under 50 wins. A debate that is similar to that of MVP.
