Donte Moncrief has visited and worked out with Panthers

Uhhh... did you see his workout, measurables and his tape against Auburn and LSU? Moncrief's QB can't throw for poo and he still managed to amass 800+ yards with 6 TDs.

Bo Wallace had a completion rate of almost 65% with over 3300 yards. He's not some scrub.

For every one of those guys, you can find someone saying 3rd-4th. The fact of the matter is only 59 players can go before 60. Everyone saying "we gotta get him before someone else does!" Doesn't realize that there are other positions than wr that will go in the draft.

I really think, with the seemingly thorough research we've done for this draft at WR, that when our pick comes in the first, it will come down to overall grades put on by Gettleman.

I've liked Moncrief for a while. Kid is good. If we do go OT in the first, then him in the 2nd would make me happy.

If we DO double up on WRs in the first two rounds, expect that Gettleman told our distinguished OC that we're going to run more spread and he's going to like it or be fired. Only explanation.

 

I don't think adding talent at the wide-out position means we need to change our offensive scheme.  There is nothing wrong with playing a clock-controlling offense, especially when you consider how valuable keeping our front 7 fresh is.

 

We can see a vast improvement in the offense even with our scheme.  NOT dropping passes will be the first improvement.  Beating DBs at the line will be the second - allows Cam a quick dump-off when defenses send the house.  Overall playmaking ability will be third - our wideouts were pretty awful after the catch last year, having a guy or two who can turn a 5 yard catch into 15, 30 yards or even a TD will be plenty welcome.

 

Overall I don't see us switching to "air it out" offense even if we hit gold on receivers in the draft.  We'll continue to take what the defenses give us and most likely go deep when we force the safeties to creep up a bit too far.  Honestly I'd rather see us build upon what was successful last season than reinvent the wheel.

Agreed.  While I like Moncrief's upside, I worry about his ability in terms of catching the ball.

 

You don't want that kind of risk in rd 2 of such a deep draft.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say that if any GM screws up their draft with the depth of talent that there is to choose from, they really shouldn't be GM's.

I dont think its that he doesn't have good hands, but his concentration needs some improving. I also noticed the most is defenders easily knocking it out of his possession after a catch

Yep, if you can put up respectable numbers with Bo Wallace as your QB, you can produce anywhere!

 

I watched a lot of their games, and Bo Wallace is not bad at all.  Not sure what you are comparing him to, but you can do a lot worse at the college level.  He's not a WR-wrecker by any means.  He can throw the ball.
