There was Pilares in the 5th but I'm pretty sure he'll be gone by September too.

 

And of course, the 2nd round pick from that year was used to get Armanti Edwards in 2010.

 

If the rest of the draft had produced something, I could see the argument.  But outside of Cam, that's a crapfest.

'01 had the best return.  Even though Morgan and Jenkins were oft injured the talent was obvious and thus the picks were correct.  Smitty in the 3rd? Sick. 

 

The 01 draft is the winner over the 07 draft.

 

Cam almost makes '11 a honorable mention all by himself.

cam can't make up for the miserable results of the 2011 draft. it was horrible. it wasn't the worst, but i wouldn't put it up in even the top 5 drafts since 2000.....not  we've had a stellar record to begin with.

 

i'd have to agree that 2001  was the best and i'm not sure any other year can compete with it. the drop off between it and those other years you might want to have in the discussion is pretty significant.

2001 and 2007 were both great, but when we look back in a few years after winning Super Bowls it's gonna be hard to go against Cam ('11), Kuechly ('12), or Star ('13), as they will be the studs that bring home the Lombardi.

I think this upcoming draft COULD be the best draft ever for us, if we play our cards right. Simply because we have a chance to meet team needs with great talent and build depth with good talent. This draft class is all but perfect for us (would be perfect if there were more great corners and a few more OTs).

No one player is ever worth an entire draft, not even a franchise quarterback.  That kind of thinking leads to stuff like the Ricky Williams trade.

 

Those picks could have been used to obtain players like the kind we're missing right now.
