Rolando McClain retires after one week with the Ravens

I would say that the vast majority of guys don't make enough to just retire after 5-6 years. Late round guys, and UDFA don't get big contracts. It takes them a long while to get to the point where they can make the money to walk away.

Even some of the ones who make enough to be set for three lifetimes wind up spending it all.

Honestly, a good signing by the Cowboys after Lee's injury.  Not like there's exactly a ton of talent out there at MLB and with all the injuries going around the league at the position at the moment, any talent that is out there is probably gonna be gone soon.  Low risk, high potential reward.  He probably won't pan out for them, but if he does, it'll be a huge steal for them because as good as Sean Lee is, he's Dan Morgan version 2.0.  Hell on wheels when he's on the field, it's just that he's rarely on the field.

A lot of them never adjust to the fact that they're no longer pulling in millions per year.  They live life during their careers like they're going to be making that type of money the rest of their lives when in reality, they're likely to have many years after football when they'll need that money to carry them.  My wife used to work for an airline carrier in HR and you wouldn't believe how many ex-NFL players end up working as baggage handlers for like $9 an hour after their career is over.  Not huge names, but names avid fans would likely recognize - if not for the NFL careers, their college ones.
