Panthers met with Xavier Grimble

Wouldn't mind seeing us take a TE in this draft. Olsen/Dickson/Draft pick could lead to some nice plays and sets for Cam.

If we draft one though, seems the Brandon Williams experiment is over.

I don't necessarily see that as the case. Could certainly end up that way but too early to tell. Dickson's contract makes him easy to send on his way if he doesn't pan out. IF Brandon Williams takes a big step during TC and the preseason Dickson could easily be the odd man out.

B Williams is the new Gettis

He's had one year in our system. How about give him an offseason to improve and see where he is in July and August. If he doesn't show he can be productive during the preseason by all means send him packing. I don't think that's unrealistic...

Me personally? I would rather give B. Williams another year than to spend a draft pick on a TE. Now, I am assuming we are talking later rounds also. Cuz the ONLY TE we want? Is an early one. One that can push Olsen. Not Dickson.

Our 1st 2 picks have to be starter material. I don't see us going TE in this scenario. Most are hoping/hyping for LT, and WR for those 2 picks.

Our 3rd and 4th round picks need to be contributors. and heavy rotationally as well. A TE very well could come out of this group. Would pretty much shut the door on the 2TE sets rumor. Signing Dickson for 2 years, then drafting a TE that high? Mkay? Make a weakness a strength and all that.

The next TE that joins this team puts B. Williams on Turk alert. If you take 1 1-4 you expect them to play, so B. Williams says thanks for the experience. If you draft 1 later, you are telling him to beat out the rook, and you can stay.

Or, you use that pick on a 6th round CB with some return ability, and let B. Will get lots of reps this summer.

So, to answer the question. If Gman hits this draft as well as he hit last years. We will be a pretty good team. Cool for me.

B. Williams, Pilares, Barner, are all guys the Powers that Be want to take a look at.

I'm hip brother, I'm hip.

He and Pilares, in my world anyboo, have a golden opportunity in front of them. The team really likes them, they know the system by now, they both have potential, and it would take the pressure off of what McNutt, King, and Underwood bring.

Until this sorts itself all out. It will continue to be an entertaining topic. Who should stay, and who should go?

So, the Brandon Williams hype has almost reached Gary Barnidge levels of insane. Almost.

They liked him well enough to not try and stash him on the Practice Squad. The way things are shaping up right now. He is in line to get plenty of reps to show whether or not he is ready to contribute. Can't help if some of us are excited for the opportunity to see what he can bring.

Or to put it another way. Sorry us fans are getting in the way of your precious Panther news.

I don't even know what that means. I get excitement. I also get that people pull for the unknown underdog story, even though the player has not shown signs of anything. Go to training camp. Watch him play. He looks lost. Maybe he changes that this year? Until then, he's going to be Gary Barnidge.

Orgeron, who led USC to a 7-2 record last yr:

"I think Xavier is going to be an All-Pro in the NFL," Orgeron told FoxSports.com . "He has unusual body size for a tight end that looks like a left tackle. He can block, run and catch, and he's a great young man."

Grimble:

“I don’t really want to blame the coach or anything but [Lane] Kiffin has his ways,” Grimble said. “He likes to run a certain type of offense. He’s more of a certain “Get the ball in the guy’s” hands. He likes to max out one person. Our first year it was Robert Woods . Then it was Marqise [Lee ] for two years.”

“I kind of got overshadowed a bit"

Unless you have the potential to be a Gronk or Graham, TEs are a terrible first round pick. They are pretty much the lowest paid position players aside from your kickers and special teamers. Why would you want to invest your cheap labor tag on someone who won't be paid much anyway?

Cam is a first rd pick which gives us rights to him for 6 years - 4 years of cheap labor, 5th yr where he gets paid fairly, and 6th yr franchise tag. The money we save is tremendous over his true value which is roughly 18-20mil

You can say the same about Luke. He probably carries a value of 12-13 mil a year.

A really good TE only gets paid 6-8 mil. A ton of value wasted on a first rd pick.
