Kony Ealy or Dee Ford

I agree bc of the money tied in CJ and Hardy. I think we might look for our cheaper replacement to CJ and extend the younger hardy.

We might look for a cheaper replacement but not in the first round, not with our needs at WR and O-line.

Ford is seriously overrated. He's a one trick pony.

I think so, too. I believe he also benefited from being on a great Auburn team, though the same can really be said for Ealy, as well.

Which, is why I believe Lawrence is going to be awesome. Even on a sub-par Boise State team, he dominated. I mean, he showed that he has what it takes to really be a force in the NFL. On top of that, he even looked awesome at his workout with the Broncos, reportedly, by taking snaps at outside LB.

Right. CJ was what a 3rd and Hardy a 6th? And DE's not an immediate need so no reason to spend a high pick on it. People act like we can't get good players outside of the 1st or 2nd round and that is just not true.

Gettleman has made it crystal clear we're not drafting based on immediate needs. We're drafting best available.

What Linville said.

Don't get me wrong, if you notice my user name, you'd guess I *love* me some Dee Ford.  And I do.

But Dee Ford is not a match for DE in a 4-3 defense.  Unless he puts on about 20 pounds.  But then he'd probably lose the traits that make him so dangerous, his speed and quickness.

He showed at the Senior Bowl and in private workouts that he has the agility to "drop back" as a LB, so I'm pretty sure he's gonna make some 3-4 team happy.

So the answer to your question, though it pains me to say it, is Kony Ealy.

I appreciate that candor.

I don't know why, but I'm seeing Ford as a Beason-like LB in the NFL.  Am I off base?

Neither really. Ford's too small for a 43, Ealy, imo, has benefited from a weak DE class. I think he's a better fit in the 2nd round. To me, he has great agility but doesn't explode off the snap.

The one game I saw Ealy in person he was pretty darned explosive against a very, very fast and quick Auburn team.

He was the only guy they had on defense that could make a play.

That's a lot of praise for both players then because CJ is a top 5 all around De and has top 5-10 sack numbers since becoming a starter.

CJ has never been top 5 in sacks, unless you want to break it down to 4-3 DE position! He has only been top 10 twice. Been in league since 2007. Not knocking CJ, he is a reliable work horse that is top 15 4-3 DE every year. I just think Kony will be on more of a JPP level minus injuries
