USC WRs scare me too, but when I watch Lee, he looks awesome. I'm too young to remember what Colbert looked like coming out of college but old enough to remember that I thought Dwayne Jarrett was an idiot when he came out.

Colbert looked very good, but unspectacular.  Basically how he looked for the Panthers as a rookie.  I have no idea what happened to the guy.  He showed he had the talent to play in the NFL as a rookie coming in 2nd in that rookie class in receiving yards (754 trailing Larry Fitzgerald's 780), he just fell off the map after that.

Cutler to Manning.

But the point is correct, this rarely ever happens.

But that was far from a direct hand off.  There were three seasons between Cutler being traded and the Broncos acquiring Manning.  They had Kyle Orton and The Golden Calf of Bristol running the team in the meantime.

The Broncos went 8-8 in '08 prior to trading Cutler and repeated that 8-8 record the next year before dipping to 4-12 in '10.

He was essentially our #2 that year cus Steve broke his ankle, right?

Agreed, just trying to remember one instance of letting a "franchise" guy go in his prime.

Yep. Moose was an absolute BEAST that year having his best season with 93 catches for 1405 yards and 16 TDs.

The one game that sticks out in my mind from that year is the 49ers game. I was so pissed off cus we were getting our ass kicked at halftime...then came Moose.

BPA could also correlate with value. This is my point.

A 1st round OT at 28 vs a 2nd round OT at 50+ = a bigger talent gap.

A 1st round WR at 28 vs a 2nd round WR at 50+ = much less of a talent gap.

Therefore, we should take OT in the first, or else we won't find a stud OT.

I'm under the impression that at the end of the day, gettleman will get us what we need. I could be misled but I have faith that gettleman can find some key contributors during "garbage time" aka. Late rounds UDFA territory.

Many will freak if we don't take WR first two rounds, but I wont

This is broken logic.  It's impossible to come to this conclusion before seeing who is on the board, that's why most of us here are saying that WR is likely to yield better value.  I think that it's likely, but not certain.  It's quite possible that all of the OTs that we have a 1st round grade on are long gone at #28.

What if you reach on an OT at #28, then there's a run on WRs in the 2nd round?  If your plan is to go WR/OT or OT/WR, then you're forced to reach twice.  I think and I hope that Gettleman plans on going BPA but BPA for OUR team.  Meaning that built into our big board will be a consideration of need.

Those numbers seem incredibly arbitrary, especially you defining which has a larger talent gap. I'd be more inclined to say an OT at 28 and an OT at 60 are very similar in talent. This, why guards are not valued as highly and can be acquired later in the draft.

The way I look at it is:

If you have a player at DE ranked at 30. And you have an OT ranked at 38. We should go with the OT because of our situation.

All the best OTs will be gone before 28.  Even though OT is the bigger need, I don't want to reach on a guy.  To me, everyone after Robinson/Lewan/and Matthews, all the other OTs are about on the same level in terms of development.  So I believe we should go receiver.

The only possible exception I see is Zach Martin.  If he was slightly taller with slightly longer arms, he'd probably be right up there with the other three guys you mentioned.  You're not gonna find that ideal LT prospect at the bottom of the 1st round.  Hell, Gross is had virtually identical physical measurements to Martin and we took him #8 overall.  Admittedly, Gross did test out as a slightly superior athlete in virtually every category, but the numbers are pretty damn close.

Jordan Gross

6'5"

300 pounds

33.25" arms

10.5" hands

28 reps

31.5" vertical

112" broad jump

4.39 20 yard shuttle

7.69 3 cone drill

Zach Martin

6'4"

308 pounds

32.875" arms

9.5" hands

29 reps

28" vertical

106" broad jump

4.59 20 yard shuttle

7.65 3 cone drill
