DT: The rumours of Mike Velucci going to Carolina won’t stop. With big changes coming to the Canes, Velucci may get a big-time promotion!

Just to clarify about @mike_vellucci going to Carolina, I think it'll be as the Asst. GM! He is a helluva coach but he might be a better GM!

Vellucci is the current coach of the OHL's Plymouth Whalers. Vellucci has coached the Whalers for 11 years and has a career record of 398-218-36-38. Vellucci's squad has made it to the OHL playoffs 10 out of his 11 years as a coach and they've won one championship (J. Ross Robertson Cup). Vellucci has also won the coach of the year award once as well.

The only time Vellucci's club did not make the playoffs was when he stepped down in 2007 to focus on his GM duties. Former Hurricanes goalie coach Greg Stefan became the head coach, but Vellucci regained control after Stefan left for the Hurricanes the following season.

The assumption is that Ron Francis will be named the new general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes and Francis will hire Mike Vellucci to be his right hand man.
