Panthers hosting WR Robert Herron

A consensus you say? I know what 'best player available' means to me, but since a consensus can't be reached on who the best player is, at any particular draft position, good luck with a consensus on the definition itself.

That was my point....I was being sarcastic.

We're not picking him since we talk to him. Whoever we talk to we're not picking. Everything is smoke and mirror. Who teams talk to matters mostly for teams picking top 5.

didn't we workout Star and Short last year. Not everything is a smokescreen.

The talent in later rounds isn't there for a #1 receiver. Gettleman won't pass up the BPA in round one, and biggest needs are OT and WR.

I think the difference between a reach in the early rounds for a #1 WR as opposed to CB, leans towards corner and towards a value pick or two @ wr in later rds in this draft.

Christ.

For the last three years this site has analyzed, critiqued, prodded, and probed all the receivers in of the drafts.

Marty Gilyard immediately comes to mind as someone the huddle had a huge man crush on.

Right? People wanted him over Decker. That was actually a good year for wrs. Missed on Thomas that year. I think people look at some of the end of year stats and highlight with the 40 times too often. The strength of schedule matters, how a player fairs against better competition matters, the often overlooked drills like shuttle and cone drills tell more than a 40 time

He had a two-day visit with the Saints 7 days ago. Patriots worked him out one-on-one a month ago

"Drew Brees (or Tom Brady) will appreciate the wheels on this burner. Herron recorded a low 4.3 forty sprint at his pro day workout, proving what most already knew: He can take the top off any defense. He's also a nice fit for New Orleans in that he's extremely difficult to jam at the line against man coverage... He is extremely slippery at the line of scrimmage against press man coverage... He's got serious wheels and sticky hands."

I have no idea how this could will turn out at the next level, but I've been a huge proponent of his since the combine. Picking him at the end of the 3rd would be awesome or if we traded back into the early 4th. He's definitely a work in progress, but I could see him contributing immediately on ST and doing some damage in a Cordarelle kind of way this year. The kid has more layers than what is perceived as an undersized kid with a nice 40. Tough, fights for the ball, good in traffic and capable of going the distance.

I like him if he is the second receiver we draft. He could be dangerous with Cam's arm but the odds are against him becoming a number 1. Pair him with the guy we want to be that #1 and we could really have something.

Agreed.  I like the idea of getting a big receiver in round one or two and then adding a smaller inside-outside option like Herron or Richardson later on.

That kind of pairing would mesh well with Cotch and Avant and give us an improved overall group.  It'd also give Cam the young receiving talent he needs to grow with.  We're already a bit late on that front.

Again, for those who have not seen Herron, check out both vids in this article and the Senior Bowl footage too.  He's an explosive talent.
