I THINK the Panthers will seek trade for new DT

possible solution: throw brayton in @ DT and start CJ and LE. Brayton played DT in Oakland and was projected to play some DT in passing downs... thoughts?

that's probably going to have to happen unfortunately. it's a shame because brayton was really coming on in the second half of the season.

another thought that no one is entertaining is trading away charles Johnson.

Good a time as any to see if our rook's can step up in camp with first team reps. I like Irvin myself, but then I also just predicted that Kemo's injury was not serious. Very interested to see what Beason's next blog says about the rookie DT's. You know it's coming.

We have ZERO to trade this late in the game. We are going to have to hope that Fox has had his eye on someone for a while knowing that DT depth could be a problem...a guy that could be had for very little and a guy that could produce a lot.

If they are really in "win now to save our job" mode then I could see us trying to pry Rogers away from the Browns but it would cost us dearly. I'm not even sure I'd want to trade that much of our future away when Rogers is injury prone and we already don't have a first rounder for 2010.

like i've said earlier, we have a potential starting middle linebacker from pennsylvania who'd i suspect we could trade to philly if they had a DT we needed. However, the only one we could probably get is trevor laws who's currently nicked up and a little small.

There's also charles johnson now that we have browns.

Rogers missed 10 games 3 years ago and that's about it

If we trade for someone it will be like the harris deal. We will pick up a young guy working on his rookie contract with perhaps one or two years left, no big guaranteed money or signing bonus. He will have starting experience but will be considered an extra guy. Maybe someone who started due to an injury to the incumbent who is back.

By picking a relatively cheap guy with no big signing bonus, it won't hurt the team trading him away and will cost us the draft pick, maybe a 4th or 5th rounder and little to no money since we pick up the contract. We can still fit him under the cap and next year either renegotiate or let him go with little consequence.

Who is he? I haven't a clue but I bet the Panthers do.

The Bears have a plethora of DTs, and the 2 teams have a history of making trades, so I wouldn't rule out something like that happening. It also helps that they both run the same general defense...

I thought of that too. Depends on the dynamics.

I'm 95% sure they are going to make a move, some way or another, whether by trade or FA acquisition.

this is our area of the least depth. behind our starters there are absolutely no proven commodities.

in 07 Minter retired and we were left in the same situation at safety. then Hurney makes a move for Harris. we made a trade for a safety, a good one btw, when safety is one of Fox and Hurney's lowest priorities historically. Now the same thing is happening with our DTs, and with Fox being an avid front four fan, it's only a matter of time before we hear of a trade or a signing.
