John Clayton Weighs in on our talent at Receiver

Exactly.  The answer was lacking too.  This article I posted earllier has it right.  This is the year to turn the page at WR.  I'll mis Steve as much as anybody else, but it was time.  He's too intense to fade away as a Panther.

It may stink to have massive turnover, but this is absolutely the time to do it, and, let's face it, we were well below average at WR anyway.  There's every chance we'll end up better.

that and Smitty will be back. i saw somewhere where he expressed his desire to still retire a Panther. maybe something similar to what we did for John Kasay

The only thing stupid with that piece is the reader asking the question.

His fantasy..

Dave is a stupid GM who is crippling Cam by getting rid of the great leader & All Pro Steve Smith & the stellar Ginn/LaFell combo.

Reality..

Dave is a smart man who knows exactly what he's doing. Smith is not a leader & is average at best at this point. Ginn/LaFell are drop prone WRs & were made by Cam. The guys brought in will do just fine.

Splitting time as the Crypt Keeper must have affected the time he is allowed to think about football. NE loses free agents and we let ours go? He mentioned TE's Hernandez and Gronk as part of the "receivers" Brady lost but makes no mention of our pretty good TE Olsen being a receiver. Has our receiver position been in turmoil? Yes of course, but his spin on the narrative to make his point seems a bit biased.

I'm not much of a John Clayton fan, but regarding our WR corps, he's right.  We just have a mixed bag of spare parts right now lacking a legit starting caliber WR among them.

You could argue the same for our defensive secondary, but the difference is that they're protected by an elite front seven. When you have a mixed bag of spare parts at both WR and OL, you're asking for trouble.  Kind of like if you had our secondary playing behind a weak pass rush.  Oh wee mayne.

I agree his point is correct but we all know we are bargain shopping with a whole new receiving corp. His reasoning behind the explanation comparing us with NE is where he loses me.
