According to PFT Panthers have interest in Sidney Rice

I would welcome Rice, but I am wary and afraid terribly of his injury history.. Although I'd be just as happy if we drafted a WR in the 2nd round and/or 4th or 5th, I think we all know the Panthers will take a Tackle at some point early in the draft 1st/2nd round. Pretty much a given even with all this BPA talk, Carolina isn't in the position for BPA. It's not really a good year to be picking at 28 with the specific need we have at Tackle, but every year is a good year when you finish top of your division. Gross leaving was the ultimate bombshell to the franchise during this offseason. We all thought for sure he'd stay for at least 1 to 2 more years, hell he made the Pro Bowl. But Rice would add a rangy veteran that has proven he is a number 1 receiver.

He got cleared by Dr. James Andrews. PFT's Mike Florio reports the Seahawks, Giants, Saints, and Panthers all have "interest of some degree" in Rice, who has been incredibly injury prone in recent seasons but is still only 27 years old. He played college football at South Carolina and would be an excellent fit with the Panthers. Rice has always possessed a large catch radius, which would complement Cam Newton's somewhat erratic ball placement. Apr 14 - 2:39 PM

Yeah, don't expect anything. He's filling up the holes to go straight into the draft with his BPA philosophy. DE, DT, WR, OG, CB, OT, OLB, and FS/SS are all at play here.

actually i no longer see us drafting a safety. maybe in the 6th or 7th i guess but those other 7 positions are of much greater need. we have legitimate stopgaps, young talent, and depth at FS/SS.

I know Gettleman has always said he's a BPA guy, but he also said he fills needs in FA to allow him to go BPA in the draft. The problem is those needs aren't filled. Seems like we've painted ourselves into a corner of drafting heavily WR, OT, and CB. I hope we don't have either starting OT on the roster right now and despite our WR signings, I doubt all those guys make the final roster. Bring them in and let them compete, but don't just pretend they're the answer. Really like the Cason signing and I think the staff believes we have a player in Melvin White, but behind them? Oh wee mayne. I had high hopes for Norman, but he has a long way to go just to make the roster this year.

We'll see, but either way, I think we have a couple members of our WR corps, OL, and secondary that aren't on the roster yet.
