Would Gettleman have drafted Cam?

O I believe he's sold on Cam now, but I don't believe that he was when he took the job, which is why he slow played the offense when he got here and why he's overhauling it now.

My point is that people should realize Gettleman has the benefit of a young core already in place before he arrived. He didn't have to start from scratch like most GM's do. Any new GM will tell you the hardest thing to do is find a qb. He not only inherited a great one, but also got Luke as well. The cap sucked, true but things could have been much worse for him. Who knows what he would have done with that #1 pick, because not every GM would have taken Cam.

Because he built the defense first?  Have you taken a look at how the organization with whom he spent 13 years prior to joining the Panthers built their Super Bowl teams?  If you have, then the template we're following should look familiar.

And the much talked about "seven second pause"?  Gettleman blasted the reporters who made a big deal of that and stated clearly that Newton is a franchise quarterback.  Pretty sure it was Joe Person who reported that story.  You really wanna base a theory around something he reported?

Basically, you have pretty much nothing to back up the notion that Gettleman wasn't sold on newton when he got here.  Believe it if you want to, but you've got zero evidence to prove it.

Wow, what a ridiculous thread.

OP picked out the one time it seemed like DG was being negative about Cam, even tho he wasn't, ignoring all the positive things he said , to make a silly hypothetical that can't be proved/disproved. All to add to the s***ty narrative that DG wants to sabotage Cam(and his own job in the process)

Also says not to praise Hurney but still praises him for building a core, even though Hurney built multiple losing seasons.

Not surprised given the who OP is.

It will be a few years because we don't have any money and still need to reup Cam and Luke. We are in cap jail until probably 2016. It's not a matter of convincing anyone. Players actually want to play here.

The nfl is a pendulum, suck long enough the draft picks will materialize. Any gm can just wait for that to happen and hope he doesn't get fired by then. Good GMs excel in free agency and is all about winning now. Bad GMs build through the draft.

Our cap wasn't that bad entering the off season. The move gettleman made put us in cap hell. There is no proof that the only side of the ball we can put money on was the defense. Maybe smith and Nicks was the better direction than 13mil to Hardy. Hardy is not that feared throughout the league.

No he would not have drafted Cam. He wasn't even sure Cam was our franchise QB after 2 stellar years, I'm very happy he was convinced this year.

How do you know he wasn't sure?

what does a new boss do when he comes into an organization or a company? He shows that he is the boss and that everyone has to prove themselves once again. He challenged Cam to take the the team over the hump. He challenged the team to win. Their were reports we were having a coaching search when we were 1-3. What happened after that and what did Cam do? He shined moreso than he had in his first two years minus the stats. The pressure mounted and he responded exactly how you would want a franchise qb to respond. that is exactly what good bosses do, they challenge their employees to be great.

I don't think people think about this the right way. And i don't wanna say that people think race is involved with this old fat man from Boston MA who is old school and Cam is very new school. But some of these posters are coming across very, very stupid, like that Thal poster. Gettleman prizes talented players. Do people honestly think that Gettleman does not think Cam is a once in a generation talent because of a stupid "seven second pause" that the dumbass Joe Person stated?

Gettleman has said time and time again that Hurney left him in a position most GM's dream of player wise, but the cap is a nightmare. Do i think that Gettleman would have picked Cam #1 overall? absolutely because Cam was far and away the best football player in that draft before, during and after. Do people not remember how amazing Cam was in college both with his legs and his arms? I'm of the firm belief that he was the greatest college football player of all time. He was a man amongst boys. And what has Gettleman said about cam's football smarts? I quote, "Cam is a very, very smart kid." Do you think none of this would have shined through during the pre-draft process? I do. And one last thing. When Gettleman first came here he said, "first you need a franchise qb, we have one."

a little bit of rambling but i have been preaching since Day 1 that Gettleman thought Cam was our guy.
