Would Gettleman have drafted Cam?

Gettleman hasn't done squat nor put his signature on this team. This is a Hurney core carrying a bunch of misfits Gettleman brings in. Until Gettleman can sit in front of a high demand FA and convince him to sign with us he'll never get his peers' respect and this team will always be the underdog that overachieves. Star falling to us was the most obvious decision to make. This off season is going to stain him and he better show results soon. Now he's just known as the laughing stock who cut his entire receiving corps after 12 win season.

Early leader for stupidest post of the day.

Not a clue...

The first thing he said when he got here was that the key was the quarterback position and that he was happy we had a good one. If you're assuming that gettleman would have gotten here in 2010, then I don't think there's any question cam would have been the pick.

As for the hurney core argument, I love how gettleman bashers pick and choose the few guys that hurney hit and specifically don't count many of the guys who hurney paid to be his core. Deangelo, Stewart, Beason, and Godfrey.

For all the hand wringing about receivers today, and gettlemans "misstep" of not drafting Keenan Allen last year, what about hurneys track record in that area? drafting amini over alshon Jeffrey? Or even worse, trading a 2010 first rounder to get Everette brown, and watching teams that would have drafted after us in 2010 pick demariyus Thomas and dez Bryant? Trading up for armanti and watching Torrey smith and Randall Cobb go off the board after we picked in 11? Donald Lafell over Eric Decker?

now we're still going off a sample size of one here right

the previous draft and free agency that produced a 12 win season, correct?

Can we not make this a bash thread please. I don't want this thread to turn into bashing Hurney or Gettleman. Gettleman still has time to get things done, and until I see how things play out I'm done bashing him. Hurney is gone and bashing him won't do any good, he left us in a bad situation financially, but any GM will tell you he left a damn good core.

The question I feel is very legitimate, go back to before that draft and not everyone was as sold on Cam as they are today, including many Huddlers. We all see that Gettleman clearly has the patience to wait things out so there is no guarantee he would have drafted Cam just because we needed a qb.

I think the better question is what players would Gman have drafted in the later rounds when Hurney was trading up for Armanti and Clausen.  Gettleman has hit a home run in the first round just like the Hurney era , but has also done well when its harder to make the pick.  He has also filled in needs with vets and managed the cap much better.  Gettleman is hands down a better GM so far.  Give him three years and then make the comparison.

There really isn't a comparison as far as who is a better GM, far too early to tell. I think we can all agree that Star fell to Gettleman. And KK was a solid pick up, but better picks could have been made. AJ Klein has a promising future, but the other two were no factors. Let's not try to compare the two on who's better, way too early.

Being the underdog that overachieves is bad?? I'll take that any day over not accomplishing anything or under achieving.

But did he view Cam as the BPA, or just the best quarterback. Some didn't even view Cam as the best QB.

Cam was the BPA in the draft. Yes it was debated but everyone and their mum knows Cam was the BPA. It's just like Clowney this year, yes it's being debated, yeah there are questions but we all know he is the BPA.
