Kevin Weidl from ESPN on Morgan Moses

Below is a very good article regarding tackles.( A must read) from PFF with stats to support.I have also pasted the summary or the article for those of you who hate to read

 Final Word

"There’s a lot to digest here, but it can be summed up rather quickly. The right tackle should no longer be viewed as the athletic inferior to the left tackle and teams should change their team-building strategy to make this happen. Today’s passing NFL makes it a necessity to have two competent pass protectors on the edge and when scouting players, if a tackle is deemed to not be good enough to play left tackle, well you’re better off just putting him at guard rather than exploiting him at right tackle. There’s no hiding — defensive coordinators will find him."

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/04/29/examining-pressure-are-left-tackles-overvalued/2/

The article also illustrates why we chose to invest the tag on Hardy. When teams have an elite LT and a not so good RT DCs will exploit that or expose them if they have two elite pass rushers.

My final observation is that we need two tackles and the moving Bell to the left side does not really accomplish much. We are cited in a chart illustrating that with Bell and Gross.

Based on this logic moving Bell to LT when he is bad at RT does not hold much water.

bitonio is legit. would not surprise me if moses was drafted before 28, hes a 20-45 player, all it takes is one team to want him. bitnoio has badass in his blood, plus hes a true athlete. no issue with either at 28, all teams need above average tackles.

My tackle rankings (Tiny Richardson and Cyrus are not on it--knee issues?  Sloppy at combine--not a good sign and the are not on my board early)

  1. Robinson (He is a truck)
  2. Lewan (I don't see why he is not higher than Matthews)
  3. Matthews (Three tackles should go in top 10-12)
  4. Martin (the one who could fall to us that nobody is talking about--a beast of a lineman)
  5. Moses (He just has all the tools-new to LT; will only get better)
  6. Bitonio (what you don't know can hurt you)
  7. Hurst  (A broken leg and he drops 3 rounds?  A correction is in order, and here it is)
  8. Mewhort (Underrated-could be a LT imo)
  9. Turner Good skill set for LT---we cant pick another small school OL in the draft, can we?)
  10. James: Tenn RT who has shortish arms but takes good angles and has good feet)

Brandon Thompson in the 4th round would be a nice value pick for next year.

nice list.

heres the new deal on cryus- ligament god james andrews put his rep on the line and said nothing is wrong with his knee. plus cryus doesnt need to go back to indy(combine) for a re-check for his knee(thats big). nick the dcik also stated during bama pro day, that couldn't find one doc that failed him. looks like the classic pre-draft smear. so taking that in, he should be somewhere in the top 7.  i was on the cryus bandwagon early, then off with the knee reports. im back now, he cannt legally drink and 6'7 320 LBs. me likely

its the opposite for tiny, ive heard nothing good or bad to refute his knee. no idea where to rank him, if the knee is solid top 7 too, bum late rounds. id maybe put james higher on your list. before tinys' knee issues, some thought he was a better prospect. mewhort, im high on him form the standpoint of staying power and versatility(he can play C).  i think mewhort is a 10 year RT starting this year.  hurst would be great in the mid rounds. i was off the martin support, but given the FA moves and panthers need all OL spots other than C, he'd be a fine addition. its against my religion to draft a gurad in early rounds, so he better play Tackle.

my big issue for all these OTs, is who can play "LT". all sort of opinions out that the guys you have list are OGs or RT, even the top 3. remember last year, the #1,#2, and 4# overall drafted "LT" picks played RT..... so for me its about what carolinas current OL coach can do with these blobs of clay, cause it seems you have to mold a LT and that may take a couple years.

Good info---really interesting about Cyrus.  If there is no knee, then there is no excuse for sucking at the combine, but he is a blob of clay, as you say.

James is fundamentally better than Richardson in the game I watched, but he has shorter arms and I think I had trouble getting past that.

Matzko deserves a medal for what he did last year with the OL.

the Chargers (who pick at 25) published this on their website a couple days ago:

Prospect Profile: Morgan Moses

...

Even though he is 6-6, 314-pounds, Morgan Moses is an even more imposing figure in person. Blessed with tree trunks for legs and big powerful arms, it is impossible to miss him on the football field

...

Moses started 43 of 48 games over his four year career at Virginia, successfully making the switch from right tackle to the left side for his senior campaign.

...

The burly offensive tackle excels in pass protection. He uses his exceptional arm length to his advantage, jolting pass rushers with a strong punch off the snap. Moses...often dominates his opposition.

Once he latches on it’s nearly impossible to shake him as the tackle does a great job driving the defender off the block. Moses also plays with the type of nasty streak coaches look for

...

with some analysts comparing him to Ryan Clady, it is expected that Moses will hear his name fairly early come the draft.

Walter Football's updated mock came out today. He had us taking Marqise Lee at 28, but with Lee off the board earlier in his newest mock, he has us going with Moses. These are the OL that went in the 1st R of his latest mock:

6. Atlanta Falcons: Greg Robinson, OT

9. Buffalo Bills: Jake Matthews , OT

16. Dallas Cowboys: Taylor Lewan , OT

19 Miami Dolphins: Zack Martin, OT/G

Zack Martin had an outstanding Senior Bowl, and there's talk that despite his short arms, he could be used at left tackle. Worst-case scenario, he's a stud guard or a right tackle. Miami needs help at both positions

23 Kansas City Chiefs: Xavier Su'a-Filo, G

They just signed Jeff Linkenbach, but I'm told that they view the former Colt as a backup. Right guard is a huge hole.

28 Carolina Panthers: Morgan Moses , OT

They could go with Kelvin Benjamin, Cody Latimer or Allen Robinson, but there will be plenty of those types of wideouts available in Round 2. Instead, they could address another huge hole. There's a massive void at left tackle in the wake of Jordan Gross' retirement.

32 Seattle Seahawks: Joel Bitonio, OT/G/C

Joel Bitonio simply fits what Seattle looks for in a prospect, and he would fill a major void at right tackle. Bitonio can play any position up front, including center, so Seattle will love his versatility.

Seahawks blogger on Moses:

(Moses is) a whale of a man.... he's massive, has a lot of length, and a lot of power. ... Moses' 20 yard shuttle - a drill that is designed to measure agility in a short space - was 4.92 seconds. This was only .06 seconds slower than Greg Robinson's 20 yard shuttle, a player who many think is the best LT prospect in this class.

...

(Moses) is extremely durable and is versatile.

...

Moses is a quality pass blocker ... He has..long arms and strong hands that allow him to lock onto pass rushers. ...Whether it is pass or run blocking, if Moses gets inside hand position he's too big and strong for defenders to not get dominated.

...

In my opinion, Moses is the 2nd best run blocker in the country behind Greg Robinson. When Moses gets his 324 pound body and 9 ¾" hands on defenders, he can move them wherever he wants to on the field.

...

Moses is not only a dominant run blocker but from how he plays on tape, he looks like somebody that enjoys man handling somebody. He finishes all his blocks, plays hard on every snap, and punishes defenders repeatedly. ... he competes on every down, is tough and finishes his blocks.

...

This is the type of blocking that would make me very happy for years to come....I think the Seahawks would love Morgan Moses.

a draft site on Moses:

Moses allowed only two sacks in 2013... He has the talent to be an elite left tackle in the NFL, but needs some coaching and tweaking of his technique ... don't be surprised to see a team like Denver or Seattle take him at the end of round one.

...

His height (6'6"); bulk (325); arm length (34") are all prototypical NFL left tackle...Despite his large size, Moses is an exceptional athlete. He has has quick feet and reaction speed which allows him to be a standout in pass protection. He is one of the strongest left tackles in this draft...he has elite strength...and Moses also uses his long 34" arms to hold off pass rushers and push them around the pocket.... Experienced and durable; three plus year starter, no injuries

Sold.  I was keen on Moses in the 2nd for the longest time, but I feel like he is more than worthy of the 28th pick now.  Didn't realize he was in the same conversation with Robinson for quickness and run blocking.

Moses

Lattimer

Herron

Aikens

Schofield

Johnson

Westbrooks
