Jason Verrett worked out for Carolina

Just because they're big doesn't make them better corners. I would be happy with Fuller or Verrett in rnd.1

I didn't say yet were. But, it's been shown in the NFL that, and our GM loves to say it, big guys let you compete.

OK, for those that don't want in the first, he's not going to be there at 60. Trade 28 to Jacksonville so they can get their QB plus our 5th for Justin Blackmon and their 2nd (39). The "going rate" for Blackmon was a 4th so could likely be worked out. Pray Verrett gets past San Fran, Denver, and less CB needy teams in the early 2nd.

The haul-

Justin Blackmon

Jason Verrett

Two of James/Turner/Bitonio/Richardson/Mewhort/Flemming/Hurst/et al at 60 and 92.

One of Ellington/Herron/et al in the 4th

No 5th

Crown us?

^ Less crazy than Verrett at 60. What other team would very realistically want to trade up to get the all important franchise QB and/or actually have something we would want? Even NE has been working out QBs from this class and for sure many in the early 2nd above JAX would pounce on a QB.

if it were just one season you may be right but it has been at least 3 seasons. When the front 7 is ineffective the secondary cannot step up. We need a secondary that can stand on it's own. that makes it a bigger need in the early rounds because we already have the equivalent of later round DB's. Waiting for the later rounds would be just adding more of the same. We have the backup talent, now let's get some starting talent in there.

We didn't have this front seven three years ago. Defense was number 2 last year while the offense was near the bottom of the league and that was with Smith and gross. I think it's time to improve the offense. Cam needs a weapon to develop with fir years to come. Not to mention that the corners we need forrour system (zone corners) are easily found in later rounds

but we did have a need to rebuild the secondary and it was neglected. something that would have come in handy this past season when the front 7 let down and the secondary was powerless to stop anyone.

Do you really want to reach on Moses, OBJ, Matthews, etc. when you have a day one starter in Verrett on the board. You gotta get immediate starters, NFL ready guys in one, can't.reach for position, reach for need in 2 and 3

well if there is anything we need it is a starter at CB. We have CB's who start but in reality are backup talent.

So to make a long story short your telling me cb is more important right now then Lt and Wr?

No that's what you are telling me. More important than WR in early rounds. The depth of the draft at WR makes getting a starting talent CB more important in early rounds 1-2. I would say it is pretty much a tie for OT.

Deep and elite are two different things. Cb can wait. End of discussion

Deep means we can get what we need at WR to upgrade the O with out drafting one in the first 2 rounds. In fact we can get 2 in later rounds.  CB needs to be addressed in the first 2 rounds to make any impact on a otherwise weak secondary. Now we can end the discussion.
