Trade Up For MIKE EVANS?

i understand some of you guys concerns but your putting way to much in his 40 time, the 40yd dash is the most overrated event at the combine...........especially for wr's. personally we don't need him to be Calvin Johnson, a beast wr but that has got them to the playoffs once and that cap is paralyzing

So if he not a transcendent Calvin Johnson like talent.. why would we trade up for him?  A great deal of his big plays were breakdowns (Manziel doing Manziel things).   Mike Evans excelled in jump ball, block out situations.  However to say he is worth trading up from 28th to inside top 8 for ....you guys can't seriously think he is worth that?

Put it like this..

Is Mike Evans worth

Lee, OBJ, Cooks, Benjamin (1 of those guys will be there at 28) + possibly a descent LT prospect in the second and a 1st round pick next year?

How can you guys even entertain a thought like this!!!

wait, you would be willing to trade 2 firsts and a second(not even sure where you got that from to begin with) for either of two guys who will both be available at #28?  but to make that same trade to a guy who will be gone by #10 at the latest is stupid?  and you are serious?  your guys are late firsts at best, Evans is widely considered the best WR, #2 at worst.

Greg Robinson and Jake Mathews.  Tackles who will not be available at 28.

A very good lesson indeed. Look where their at now. If you find pleasure making the playoffs then falling off in a dumpster cool

you think they will still be in a dumpster next year if healthy?  if so, cool.  if you think it's because they didnt have a first round pick last year and that's why they struggled last year, cool.  maybe you have the insight to notice our defense is 10 times what theirs is already and just need a real playmaker to go to the next level, that would be pretty cool.

The ONLY pick we will use on a WR is the 1st. Because the ONLY WR we are looking for in THIS draft, is a guy that can push for #1. The ONLY spot open on that squad is the #1 position. IMO, we will not draft any WR this year, if, we pass on the 1st round.

We have our 2 wily vets, we have a guy returning from IR we really like, we have some guys behind them we really want to look at. Why waste a draft pick to muddy the waters?

Now if they think they can upgrade over Cotch, and Avant, with a rookie. I say okay then. Let the competition begin.

So...I could be right. Or, I could be right. Cool.

Top 10 WR Rookie Seasons in NFL History (per BR)(bold,my research):

1. Randy Moss, 69 receptions, 1313 yards, 17 TDs. 1998 Draft: 1st round, 21st pick

2. Bill Groman, 72 receptions, 1473, 12 TDs. 1960 Draft: Undrafted

3. Anquan Boldin, 101 receptions, 1377 yards, 8 TDs.  2003 Draft: 2nd Round, 54th pick

4. Billy Howton, 53 receptions, 1231 yards, 13 TDs.  1952 Draft: 2nd Round, 15th pick

5. Bob Hayes, 46 receptions, 1003 yards, 12 TDs.  1964 (NFL) Draft: 7th Round, 88th pick.  1964 (AFL) Draft: 14th Round, 105th pick

6. John Jefferson, 56 receptions, 1001 yards, 13 TDs. 1978 Draft: 1st Round, 14th pick

7. Cris Collinsworth, 67 receptions, 1009 yards, 8 TDs. 1981 Draft: 2nd Round, 37th pick

8. Sammy White, 51 receptions, 906 yards, 10TDs. 1976 Draft: 2nd Round, 54th pick

9. Eddie Brown, 53 receptions, 942 yards, 8 TDs. 1985 Draft: 1st Round, 15th pick

10. Percy Harvin, 60 receptions, 790 yards, 6 TDs. 2009 Draft: 1st Round, 22nd pick

The purpose of this post is to illustrate that rookies rarely perform as #1 WRs on a team.  I know this list can be argued but I think it is pretty apparent that if you want a rookie to come in and be your #1 WR don't expect a 1,000 yard season and 10+TDs.  They may become that #1 later in their careers and put up those type of numbers on a consistent basis, just not the first year.  Just trying to keep things in perspective for those who think whoever we draft is going to perform at this kind of level right away.  I can already predict the rage and burn in effigy type posts after the 3rd week if our rookie WR hasn't scored a TD.

I am with you about trading away too much. If Evans drops to 15th I would think about it, but trying to get into the top 10 IMO isn't worth it.

If he falls to past like 18th I am definitely doing it.
