Trade Up For MIKE EVANS?

Very rare that trading away picks ends up best in the long run.

Personally, I think he is 1 of the Boom or Bust players early in the draft.  He might end up being great, but what he did in college will not translate the same to the NFL.  Not saying he doesn't have a chance to be great, but just feel he has the potential to be a bust as well.

I'm a fan of Evans, but cannot mortgage the future for anyone.

I asked a buddy of mine this question since Frank Garcia has been pumping a similar idea all week on the radio.

His response: "That'd be like going to a club and spending all your money on the first girl you see before you notice that there's a bunch of other hot ones in there too"

That's a little more colorful than 'don't trade up in a deep draft" but the same basic principle

evans and lewan are the only guys id trade up for, but no more than 3rd rounder. last year 49ers moved up form 30 to 18th for only a third!!! if lewan or evans are around 20th and all it takes is a 4th or 3rd, id sure think about it. deep draft makes drafting up the wrong move, but i think lewan and evans are top ten talents. lasted year lewan would have been 1st overall and evans top five no question.

I've stayed out of this thread simce my first post in this thread.

seems that most posts are centered around justifying the trade up to get him.

I'm not even going to justify it, for the reason, that if Gettleman trades up to get him, he flat out feels Evans is worth it.

If that happens, see back to my last post, that I'd be as happy as a. .......

Bucs blog yesterday:

"Mike Evans is almost certainly going to be available for the Bucs if they stay at number seven.

...

Bucs have a massive need at wide receiver after trading Mike Williams to the Buffalo Bills.

Right now, they have Vincent Jackson ...and that's about it. Louis Murphy and Chris Owusu are hardly reliable, and the Bucs need more targets for Josh McCown , or whoever else is going to start at quarterback.

Evans would fill that need and should be productive immediately. He'd also help the Bucs replicate last year's Chicago Bears offense, with its pair of huge starting wideouts which helped Josh McCown thrive.

...

Drafting a Vincent-Jackson-clone like Mike Evans would make sense. Having two massive, big-bodied receivers will help any quarterback

...

Evans would also give the Bucs an obvious heir apparent to Jackson, who turned 31 this year and won't be around forever."

No way Evans is on the board at 15. If he gets past TB at no7, I would trade with MINNY at no8: two 1st and a 2nd. Evans is too great of a player to be have that cheap. You gotta give some to get some. Cant be cheap!

Two firsts and a second for Evans is lunacy.
