On the Smitty issue.  While it was a cheap shot I am pretty sure he might have just blown off some steam from the constant motor mouth that Smitty is.   Smitty won the battle with the TD.  Harper just let him know he may have lost but wasn't quittin.   He got flagged for it.   No worse than Munnerlyn getting that cheap shot against TB. (I believe it was) 

 

The man is going to thrive in our defense.  Just as Mitchell did.  He is a multiple year Pro Bowler I highly doubt he is gonna suck with our defense.  He'll be vocal and he will take charge of that defensive backfield.   He's a leader and a proven winner.    Wilks will be ecstatic to have him.

 

I was shocked by the signing but am Happy we got a solid replacement for Mitchell.

Mitchell was younger way faster and better in coverage then Roman ever was.

Define way faster?  Says who?  You have a stopwatch that backs your claims.  Better in coverage?  How many Pro Bowls does Mitchell have?  (though I will admit I thought he got screwed in 2013)  Harper has two time Pro Bowl selections.

 

If we had to choose between Mitchell and Harper this time last year before we knew what Mitchell would do here.  95% of this forum would have wanted Harper. 

 

You don't like the Harper signing that is cool.   Let's not make him out to be the bust we got from Baltimore.  (Naka something)

 

You give me a Veteran like Harper with our front seven.  You will see him make the Pro Bowl again.   I would bet money that S. Wilks is happy to have him.

Mitchell ran a high 4'3 low 4'4 high in the 40ty. That's what made him attractive to Al Davis.

Roman would need a bike to be that fast.

You are not going to change my opinion of Harper. It won't be change until I see it on the field. But right now i've seen to many Saints vs Panthers game where the game plan was to attack Harper. Throw at him run at him find 1-1 match ups against him. And they worked very well for us.

Yeah and that speed won him the job in Oakland.  The only place 4.4 speed does you any good is at the combine and in Madden.   You know there is a difference between running without pads and running is a game.

 

He may be faster but Harper understands assignments and defense.   I will take a smart safety over a fast one.  (Not implying Mitchell was stupid)
