If I recall correctly, he was a Panther for a minute.

Would it be surprising if after the draft Hurney or someone affiliated with the Panthers came out and said "We tried to trade up for him!  Wow we were so lucky he lasted until our pick at #40!"? (or whatever the pick was..40 or 44 I think)  I don't believe everything people "report" .. even if it was said during the draft (don't know why that would make it more credible...)

Clausen said Fox told him the Panthers tried to trade up with the Rams to get him but that it didn't work out.

Well thanks for clearing that up.  I hadn't ever seen that quote.  I hate when rumors get circulated so much they get accepted as true.  I didn't disbelieve for a second it COULD have happened, but I had neither seen nor heard any credible account of it.

I sometimes wonder what else didn't happen that could have when Marty was in charge.

We traded what was the 33rd pick in the draft for AE add that to the pick we actually used on AE....wow you have the makings a football team with no depth....oh yea :(

 

Glad to see we have a man in charge with a plan and what appears to be a knack for finding talent now.

Everett Brown, Armanti Edwards and Clausen were all worse, IMO.

brown and Edwards each in their own right were pretty horrific, we basically picked Clausen where we did because we thought if he turned bust it wouldn't hurt that bad and we were right.
