Why do people want Thomas? He may be talented but that injury history is ridiculous.

Cheap, low risk, high reward. He's one of the classiest guys in the league, and an amazing person off the field. Close with TD and played all the games last year at a slightly above average level, and that was with the Giants' front seven. I think he would be absolutely huge for us. If we signed him and hit big on a LT and WR in the draft I think we'd have a fairly good shot at the Super Bowl.

I'm not an expert on injuries, what's his timetable?

 

Me neither, but an Achilles can be a career ender (Beason has not been the same).  The rule of thumb that I heard:  If you come back, most dont, it takes 2 full years to fully recover.

 

I played in college and guys who had that injury were done, but that was some time ago.

Beason looked pretty damn good in NY. Problem here was he had to recover from the Achilles, a shoulder and I believe a knee injury. By the time he was close to being back he had to move outside where he sucked.

Once he was given a chance at the Mike again he shined.

But if you remember, the achilles injury was about 2 years old.  The other injuries kept us from knowing what he could do.  I would not bet against Beason if he got decapitated.  The rehab and all that crap is painful and slow.

i think a combination of godfrey/decoud would be best for the team if possible, while lester get's some quality subs every-now and then and harper in on certain packages...............gotta see how TC goes first

Last year, would you have said the same thing when we signed Ginn, a guy who could not crack the lineup in SF when Crabtree was hurt and Boldin was not on the roster?  Did you bitch when we signed a backup S from Oakland?  What did you think Cole would become?  Did you think Florence, Mikell, Wharton and Scott were deadbeats?  I am willing to bet that you did not celebrate when the Panthers signed undrafted free agents Robert Lester and Melvin White.
