Panthers Sign FS Decoud

I just don't see the negative in signing this guy. What did he do the year before last to warrant a pro bowl? I've heard all about last year. What did he do the year before when Atlanta was competitive?

Sent from my DROID4 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

He got a bunch of INTs and that's about it. His coverage skills and tackling were still pretty sub-par.

Your previous defense was opportunistic, and DeCoud was apart of it. You can cite a 'fall-off' but your entire team fell off the grid last season -- from your QB to your head coach. Thomas wasn't the reason your defense sucked. Gettleman is a top-tier talent evaluator (free agency and in-house wise) and an excellent scout. If he believes DeCoud to be a solid contributor then I'm not gonna question his analysis and signing. Again, Mitchell came to us as a safety who allowed QBs to complete 66% of their passes his way (QB rating of 130 while in coverage) and he thrived in the FS spot.

DeCoud is a notch above Mitchell in coverage so I view it as an upgrade. Our front seven is going to keep a ton of pressure off of him.

Fair enough but don't say I didn't warn you about how bad he could potentially be.

Serous? Deion is a top three shutdown corner dead or alive in the NFL.

I addressed that.

Just saying that describing a guy with "all he does is make interceptions" is similar to the Cris Carter line "all he does is catch touchdowns".

I've heard a lot worse.

Decoud and Harper both are going to know the nfc south rivals very well right from jump.  Our defense will be #1 this year, I guarantee it.  I'm looking for Starr and KK to have breakout years being year two.  Luke will develop more as well.  He's coming up on his best years guys.  I'm so excited for this defense in the next 5 years.  I think our defense is better off this year for sure.  And we still have the draft.  I'm pumped.  Our offense will ground and pound with our three headed monster and Cam and control the clock.  I think we're fine.  Just my opinion though.

Just saw that Panthers signed DeCoud for 2 years $3.75m with a 500k bonus! What a steal compared to keeping Godfrey, Gman does some serious work. Hopefully this means we will be able to pay Cam and Hardy and tie them down to long term deals.

Yup, I Think that's the plan!!  :thumbsu:

And I didn't even see, read, or hear about this signing (though being on the Huddle today) until just now. Lol

To the earlier Falcons Poster: Rivera, McDermott are good enough on defense, and have shown/proven that they can work well with anyone that's a borderline NFL player in the secondary, mind you a decent one such as Decoud. The Panthers front 7 doesn't hurt either, as  you know.

All things considered, this is a good signing.

Again the fact that he was able to produce previously with the same line is ignored. He was atrocious last year, one of the biggest fall-offs I've ever seen. DeCoud's coverage and already weak tackle skills went into the gutter. Playing behind a better front won't change him being unable to play basic coverage and read QB's.

Nothing is the same year to year.....Atl front 7 was definitely weaker in 2013 than 2012.

And yes, a good front makes a difference in what a S can do. That is pretty much a fact and a good example would be a reject like Mike Mitchell who just got a legit deal thanks to a year behind the Carolina front

Same line? Do you even pay attention to your own team? You guys lost Abraham last season and replaced him with Osi. Osi is decent, but Abraham is definitely a step up.
