Panthers sign Ed Dickson

Well, I have to admit - I had no idea what Gman was doing at first, but it appears he has loaded us up with some solid talent again. If he can pull this kind of magic on back to back 1 yr deals, just imagine what he'll accomplish when he has some cap space to work with.

"Today the Carolina Panthers, finally signed a target for their franchise quarterback.  The Panthers have been signing mediocre wide receiver after mediocre wide receiver.  At least today the Panthers signed a target for Newton in Ed Dickson the team announced today.

The team said Thursday that it had signed former Ravens tight end Ed Dickson to a one-year deal, and according to the Charlotte Observer, it’s for the veteran minimum of $795,000 with a $65,000 signing bonus.

That is a steal for the former Oregon tight end.  Dickson and Olsen will be very good for Newton and the Panthers.  It will definitely help the former Auburn quarterback out, but the team will need to address the wide receiver position after losing Steve Smith to the Ravens."

Damn, guys. You'd think it was Christmas morning a or something.  At this point I only see this as an OK signing. Yes, I reserve the right to change my mind if Dickson actually improves substantially during his fifth year, but really guys...what's the chance of that really happening?  

 

Let's see how Marc Sessler of NFL.com has responded to the Dickon signing.

Dickson is not a candidate to lead the team in anything...He ranked sixth among his peers at the position with five drops.

No tight end in the league had a worse run-blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus, which graded Dickson as the league's 64th tight end out of 64 eligible players. The Panthers, however, see something they like.
