Panthers sign Ed Dickson

My thing with the one year deals is based on what happened last year, we might not be able to keep Dickson if he has a breakout year.

I actually wouldn't have minded a cheap two year deal.

gettleman might not have, either. like i said earlier, some players are opting for one year deals because they think that either the cap will be significantly larger and teams will be able to shell out bigger deals, or they think that if they can prove themselves this year, they might be able to work themselves into a much bigger deal. considering what happened with mitchell, munnerlynn, ginn, et al, that might not have been a bad strategy. what the league is seeing now is that playing for the panthers is a great opportunity to prove yourself and earn a big deal somewhere because we'll actually give you a chance (out of necessity).

 

well...also considering what dickson's past two years have been like, that might have been all anyone felt comfortable with.

Coach him up staff.... It is always possible for a player to grow and develop more in a better environment. I've never bought into all players having a static performance level, and I think our staff is a good blend right now. Rivera is certainly a personnel manager that gets players buying in.
