It’s official: Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman as CBS’ Late Show host.

The broadcast network has tapped the 49-year-old Comedy Central host to take over the late-night franchise.

CBS has made a five-year deal with Colbert, which was announced Thursday by CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves and CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler.

“Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television,”  Moonves said. “David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.”

I wonder if he'll keep the whole faux conservative schtick

Curious about that as well. The Stephen Colbert everyone knows is just a character. I gotta think he'd abandon his character for late nite, Although I have no idea what he is like as a comedian.

Already be confirmed he won't be in character. I've seen enough of him out of character to believe he'll be just fine. He's done sketches before as well back when he was a correspondent on the daily show. He can still sneak some satire in there if he wants. I really think he'll do great

Even though this is his dream job with prestige and pay..the Colbert character is pricelss and genius.

This is like when Christopher Nolan was tagged for Batman..he will do a great job..but Id rather see his original ideas.

Congrats to Colbert! Just not worth the price of losing the Colbert Report.
