D-Will in shock over loss of receiving corp

Why would it be influenced by the cap? What does the cap have to do with which players you sign and retain?

I thought posters stopped falling for that management bargaining chip propaganda about the time the saints dished out massive dollars to one of the best players available this offseason

Have a seat son, and let's put on our thinking caps for a moment.

We have two young superstars on our team that play at high paid positions.  Both are great on and off the field, and we would love to have them long term here.  That takes massive amounts of $$$ which count against the cap.  A real thing.

We had an incompetent GM for about a decade that couldn't field a consistent team, and managed our cap about as bad as Mike Tyson managed his money.

We have a new GM that wants to put together a consistent, playoff team.  We had/have to get Gross, Smitty, DWill, Stew, and next year CJ off the books to be able to invest wisely for the future.

The Saints however, have an old HOF QB, and will go "all in" for the next 3 years to try to get one more playoff run out of Drew before age catches up to him.

We are not in the same places.  We have youth all over the place, and a few pieces, that if played right, can keep us consistently in the playoffs for years to come.

Stop being shortsighted, we are in this for the long haul, not 2014.

And another thing is that even though he's being underpaid and it affects his game more directly, we don't hear cam newton bitching about the front office. Instead, the biggest albatross on the team is wondering why the FO can't corral a receiver.

...and some people wonder why Williams isn't a very popular guy on these boards

Cam Newton is the face of the franchise and a smart business man, he's not going to give the media any ammunition. Don't worry his talking will be done for him during contract negotiations. Dwill has his money, he can say what he please. If this season starts to go south, the flood gates will open. We will hear about that Loooong story Captain referred to.

Says the team that went 12-4 in 2013 and was some bad calls away from going to the NFC championship game. I

he's not wrong and  i'd be surprised if there was anyone who wasn't shocked by it or who saw it coming that was  associated with  team, whether player or even coach.

why wouldn't he or anyone be shocked? i meanwho does that? you go into the offseason having won 12 games with the WR crew you have and then you either let them all go or trade them away, including the best player your team ever had? c'mon. how could you not be shocked by it, ezp. if you were a teammate of those guys?

and his comments about it's the front office who has the pressure now...well yeah. if course it's on them and so far they haven't nfixed the problem they allowed to happen, which is having to rebuild the corps from scratch.

getting pissed at dwill for saying this is just too funny. unless he was just some mindless puppet for the team, what was he supposed to say? this is an insane situation to be in and so far we haven't done much to put the corps in a good situation. sure, we've added two guys who have better hands than the guys who used to be on the team last year, but we're really just hoping that one year out of a decade of performance wasn't a fluke in the case of cotchery. we're hoping that underwood (who i'm sure 90% of the people in here  had to google to figure out who the fug that guy was when we picked him up) can do something more than the nothing he's done in his several year career in the pros.

we're also hoping that a GM who is well known for his desire to go with the BPA when it's our turn on the clock goes BPA according to need for at least some of the draft, but it's entiry possible that we go through this draft, which happens to be the best WR class by far in many years, without one picked in the first 5 rounds and that we're stuck with the corps of rag tag hopefuls we have right now.

no guarantees that it will get better, only hope that gettleman will make the corps better (unless you've deluded yourself into thinking that things are just fine and we can make due with the JAGs  we've got.

i can't see dwill getting reprimanded for his comments, nor should be. the front office has put themselves behind the 8 ball and really haven't done much to improve the situation an  it doesn't really matter that they don't have the cap to do much. the reality is that they haven't.

This is why I keep preaching maximize your investment, you guys will learn one day. When you don't you start blaming the player and attacking his contract, without realizing he doesn't have the tools to be successful.

It's such a mystery whey our team can't afford to bring in a dominant offensive line. It's almost as if they spent all their money paying two good running backs as if they were near elite status players.

I like Williams, he is a genuine down to earth guy and he is entitled to his opinion. However, it appears these guys might have become a tad (sarcasm) complacent on the Hurney gravy train. They like getting rich with their friends more than winning.

His contract isn't the problem, its when you add in Stewarts. Deangelo has remained a productive player for us, even when having to split carries which limits his numbers.

100% agree. People act like D-Will has been awful but he had over 1,000 total yards last year, which is pretty impressive considering his age.

Having his money doesn't allow Deangelo to say whatever he wants. Last I checked Jerry Richardson owned the team, Ron Rivera was the head coach, and Dave Gettleman was the GM. He isn't paid for commentary or opinions. He should keep his mouth shut. If he is stupid enough to not understand the moves that were made, that's his problem. He can keep it to himself or express his concerns in a professional meeting with the front office. Period.

Well for a while he was in that avg yards per carry elite class with him...until our o line went to crap.

Dude, DWill has been bad for a long, long time. At least at three years. He's had a good game here or there over the past couple of seasons, but, for the most part, he hasn't done poo other than talk.

He's a fan favorite, I get it. I see him signing autographs and hanging out with fans at WWE events and stuff and it's cool. But his personality shouldn't cloud the judgment of the type of player he is.

A RB over thirty who has been on IR multiple times in his career that was only ever truly successful when Stewart was there to split carries and lighten the load.
