Panthers running back DeAngelo Williamswas shocked to learn that none of the wide receivers who caught passes for Carolina last year would be back this year.

Asked on NFL AM about the departure of veteran receiver Steve Smith, Williams said he hated to see Smith go, but it went beyond just that. Williams said that he doesn’t know what the front office is thinking at the receiver position.

“We lost them all,” Williams said of the Panthers’ receivers. “That was tough, man. I played with Steve for eight years, and I know the chip he has on his shoulder, and he’s a playmaker. I couldn’t believe that we made those moves. Like, I’m still in shock. Not only did we lose him, but Ted Ginn Jr., Brandon LaFell, and [Domenik] Hixon.”

Asked if he feels that losing receivers puts more pressure on the running backs, Williams answered, “No, it puts more pressure on our front office because you make these moves, getting rid of four receivers, you’ve got to bring in guys.”

So far, the guys the Panthers have brought in are Jerricho CotcheryJason Avant and Tiquan Underwood. Williams was careful not to criticize his new teammates, but he clearly isn’t convinced that the Panthers can be as good in the passing game this year as they were last year. In that skepticism of the Panthers’ receiving corps, Williams is far from alone.

We can't be as good as the 28th offense in the league D-Will?  I mean, really?

yeah D-will what do you know about football and specifically what do you know about this team? You are just a Hurney mistake now be quiet and wait til we cut you.

DWill should prolly STFU. if he could hit an open hole more then 4 times a year, our need for a WR wouldn't be so dire.

He shouldnt worry about our wide outs and go focus on ball handling. Had he not fumbled at the 8 yard line, we would have been the #1 seed heading into the playoffs and our first game would be home vs the Aints. Then the Seahawks would have had to come to our place (which we would have already beaten in week 1). Just a tad easier then SF and at Seattle

Make an open hole and he'll hit it.

If you can't see how the flow of the game majorly affects play calling while marshawn steadily gains yardage to set up 3rd and short and dwill consistently does not, then there is nothing to discuss . Marshawn opens the playbook wayyyyy more than dwill because of this. Stats doemt show this because of dwills random 30/40 yard gains. Do people not watch the games?

Like WTF does "welp worked for Shula" even mean? The fact that he called Williams' number less than 30 more times in the season than Chud did in 2012?

How about you compare the difference in his production between 2012 and 2013 and how mediocre he did with ~30 extra carries before you extrapolate that he'd do just as well with Marshawn Lynch's workload while I do something productive instead of waiting for someone to come up with a good pro deangelo argument because it's never going to happen

Oh and by the way before the circular argument comes back to "well deangelo would do as good or better than marshawn of he had guys blocking better in front of him" realize that the Seahawks offensive line was piss poor at run blocking last season and he was still able to put up those numbers because he is flat out a better player than williams
