Gettlemagic: Slicing the fat off the cap with WR salaries.

This year's Super Bowl says our dominant defense > playmakers.

It's not a one size fits all, and you know it. Different teams, different personnel, different philosophies. The Seahawks basically won that game the minute they set foot on the field. The Broncos were more than awful. One of the worst Super Bowl performances in recent memory.

Greg Olsen is now our #1 target. Here are his last two seasons compared to the #1 target of the last two Super Bowl winners...

Tate- 64 Rec 898 Yd 5 TD

Olsen- 73 Rec 816 Yd 6 TD

Boldin- 65 Rec 921 Yd 4 TD

Olsen- 69 Rec 843 Rec 5 TD

BUT YOU GUIYZ WE AINT GOTS A NUMBER WON WR WE AIN'T GUNNA WIN!!!

I have said it a couple of times now:

If Greg Olsen is the best we have to offer, then we'll keep getting what we're getting. We may win, but we'll never get over the mountain top. Olsen is a role player who should not be confused for a go-to guy. Champion caliber teams' defenses don't stay awake at night trying to come up with ways to gameplan for Olsen. If they do, then half of their battle is already won.

some of these arguments make my head hurt.

Half of you guys act like we don't even need wide receivers to play the game of football, and the other half think the entire formula for Super Bowl success is having one 1,000 yard receiver.

I'm sure Cam would LOVE a Julio Jones or AJ Green or Megatron.

That being said, how many times over the last 3 years have you seen Cam miss a wide open target because he was staring at Steve Smith and forced it?

I've witnessed it personally enough times to at least give it a second thought, and it's happened A LOT.

Maybe it will truly be addition by subtraction. We'll only know when the season is underway, but it's something to consider in an offseason discussion at least.

Yea but we all saw how awful the offense became once Smitty went down. Love him or hate him, he had to be accounted for. Neither Avant, nor Cotchery, has ever had to be THE guy on offense. They will be fine here as long as they have a guy here they can get catches off of, the way Lafell and Ginn benefitted from Smitty being on the field. But if you're asking Cotchery or Avant to go up against the Revis of a defense, you can expect much less production than what Smitty gave us last year.
