Walter Football came out with an updated mock draft today having us taking Marqise Lee (as the #5 WR in the draft behind Watkins, Evans, Cooks, Beckham), writing:

"The Panthers' receiving corps is a joke right now. They're so desperate for a wideout that they may have to ask Nate from the Play 60 commercials to catch passes from Cam Newton. They almost have to go with a wideout, so perhaps they'll move up for someone like Odell Beckham or Marqise Lee."

I'm sure Cam would LOVE a Julio Jones or AJ Green or Megatron.

That being said, how many times over the last 3 years have you seen Cam miss a wide open target because he was staring at Steve Smith and forced it?

I've witnessed it personally enough times to at least give it a second thought, and it's happened A LOT.

Maybe it will truly be addition by subtraction. We'll only know when the season is underway, but it's something to consider in an offseason discussion at least.

I said the same thing in an earlier thread, and it's a valid hypothesis. Smith

had such a bombastic persona, it had to in some degree intimidate Cam. You can look back and see on film, where Cam tried on many occasions to force it into Smitty, resulting in an INT or incompletion.

You know there had to be times, when Smitty was chewing on Cams ear to get him the ball more, especially as Smiths stats started downward.

How long did Cam get to gel with his college team mates before winning the Heisman and the National Championship?

 

This isn't college.

 

Besides, we still need to find some offensive contributors in the draft. We aren't done.

your " gelling " idea is an over hyped  myth held by folks who dont realize these guys are all professional athletes.  Once the new guys run a few rutes with cam they will learn one anothers habits.  How many yards did cam pass for with brand new to him recievers his first year?
