Football Gameplan Panther Mock

Recommended Posts

Love Ems videos for several reasons. He's always putting in work and it shows that he knows every football team inside and out, he knows his stuff. Now on to the draft. I can't say that I like this draft, there's plenty to like actually, but I don't believe the players he chose for us, although are a great fit, will be there at the rounds he has said. Of course Jarvis Landry will be there at 28, I just don't see us taking him there. Specially when he will probably be a 2nd round guy. I love the OT pick. Jordan Matthews in the third would be a steal, but there is no way he will be there. Dare I say he will be gone by the second round. Taking Matthews in the second seems more feasible. All the picks are right though, just not in the right round. That's my opinion on the video. Regardless it is a good draft.

No way Benjamin lasts till the 4th round, are you crazy?

If we pass on Cooks, Lee and Benjamin for Landry I think I'll lose it. He has talent but he was like the slowest WR at the combine. I'm not putting our 28th into that kind of guy. There are plenty of tall/speed guys to be had later in the draft to fill the kinda role Landry would.

Not enamored by a 6'1" DE in round 4 either. We have guys behind CJ and Hardy worth developing. An OLB would make more sense here.

I just cannot like LSU wrs. They are becoming like Penn State for rbs or Florida for qbs

Florida for qbs you say? I seem to remember a certain qb we all know and love playing for Florida. Sure cam progressed the most with Auburn, but Florida helped him get to the level he is at today.

And on topic, I love the mock. I don't think Matthews lasts until the third and I need to watch the czar's big board vid to see why KB is grading in the fourth round. But I do love his videos and it's great hearing a guy talk about the panthers and actually be educated on our team. I'm fine with the Jarvis pick bc his hands are just so damn good and his 40 will be better at his pro day. Remember when people didn't want Allen last year? Sure he's taller, but it's the same type of scenario really.

I've done a lot of research on the one they call Jarvis Landry and though he catches nearly everything that is thrown at him, he is in all reality a slow possession wide receiver lined up in the slot.

Here is some background info on Landry,

Landry's 40 time was the worst out of all 45 participants (wide receivers) at the combine. Now when you're 5-11 you need to have a go-to characteristic: speed, strength, agility etc. Well Landry doesn't seem to have one of those go-to characteristics to make up for his lack of size. On tape you will see Landry constantly get pushed off of his route, fortunately Mettenberger was so used to playing with him that he allowed Landry to complete his full route (for the most part) before throwing it his way. Mettenberger was able to allow Landry to complete his route and still have time to get the pass off due to the type of routes that Landry ran (you will see what I'm talking about in the next paragraph). It's also hard to throw Landry open due to the chance that he will always be bumped off of his route resulting in an interception (I actually saw this happen on tape twice). The speed factor obviously isn't there either.

Another concern I have with Landry is where most of his receptions came from. 30% of all of Landry's catches came in the six to ten yard range (one of the highest percentages of all the wide outs in the class). If you're looking for a number one, your most likely searching for a guy whose receptions come around the 11-20 yard range (i.e. OBJ at an astonishing 48%).

The final concern that I have about Landry is his YAC. For years, fans have been asking for a wide receiver that can get yards after the catch... that guy is not Jarvis Landry. 50% of Landry's snaps came from the slot position so you would think that he would have a really solid YAC average, right? Wrong, Landry only averaged 5.47 yards after the catch operating out of the SLOT. That's a huge concern of mine.

And for those wondering if Landry's poor speed affected the routes he ran, it does. Only 7% of all of Landry's routes were go routes as where the majority of his routes were post routes (good routes for possession receivers).

Overall, Landry seems similar to a player that we already have on the roster in Jason Avant and while I don't think Landry will be a poor player; I don't think he is a fit with the Panthers. The Panthers have their possession receiver in Avant, their red zone threat in Cotchery, and their deep threat in Underwood. It's time to add a number one and number three wide receiver to the roster. Preferably Cooks (advanced statistics wise he ranks as the third best wide out behind Watkins and Evans) and Latimer (his potential is insane).

Just my two cents.

Cam would have been the first decent qb they had but they preferred their players to do drugs and murder people.

thx, the huddle was lacking in the intelligence department, you sir raise the football iq of this forum a few points.

Man I really appreciate the love here from you guys! This just gives me the motivation to keep moving forward and building my brand and the business. Much appreciation gang!

Landry graded out as my 4th WR behind: Watkins, Beckham, Evans in that order. #5 is Marqise Lee. I followed my board when making the picks…although, Lee wouldn't be a bad fit either

I dont always agree 100% but the biggest thing I like is that he always has a rational perspective on why he is puts someone in a certain position or why he takes a stance. His big board and the way he grades it out is cut from a somewhat different cloth but it provided great perspective and an alternative to what you see from the "established media". Needs to be on PT but I think by having him he will reduce the credibility of everyone that is already there.

Love the depth of analysis. Please keep it coming.
