Joe Person & Jonathan Jones putting our receiving corp into (Rivera's) perspective

Gman and Rivera aren't trying to replace last year's WR nor are they looking for long term WR options from free agency. They are trying to build a team from the draft, and fill in the gaps with cheap, replaceable parts from free agency. That's what they are going to do year in and year out. We'll be running lean for the first couple of seasons in this process, while we ride out crappy old contracts and have relatively high turnover rate. Once we have a solid foundation complete, however, it's a matter of reloading with BPA every year and using free agency for depth. That's how you build a dynasty, and that's exactly what they are doing. You take a little pain the short term, if you can call 12-4 and division champions pain, but once you have the machine built it's just a matter of keeping it fueled.

This is why draft pundits saying we will take player x or y are full of crap. We aren't drafting for need, we are drafting to building a strong foundation of the best players we can get. We won't reach for a WR, because we don't need to reach for a WR. We will take whoever is tops on our board when it comes to us, every time it comes to us. It's exciting to see it happening, because we have a very, very bright future ahead of us.

Hey could you do me a favor and remove all of the common sense from this post? It's hurting my huddle vision. Please edit to snarky one liners and gifs of bewbs and we'll be cool. Thanks.

Srsly tho, spot on.

Person and Jones give a statistical look at what the Panthers are ostensibly trying to do with their receiving corps, much to many of our chagrin.  Rivera talked about replacing the 10 catches  so matter-of-factly, or perhaps apologetically depending upon how you look at it.  The problem for many of us is that as opposed to just trying to replace production, we should be trying to increase or at least improve production.  And, yes, no one has forgotten about the draft.  G-man is not done, and I am still convinced that we are going to bring in at least a couple of more receivers (via draft or FA) to winnow out the wheat from the chaff.

I will give G-man and RIvera this: even at this moment, we may get some improvement just with the better hands alone. Of course, as always, a lot depends on the play calling.

Check out the short article, Huddlers.

Person and Jones have put forth a very astute analysis and summation of the state of our receiving corps at the present moment, in my estimation.

add to that mix a combo like Beckham Jr & Moncrief or Cooks & Adams and our receiving corps is better than it has been in a few years... i think its arguable that our production has been replaced by these guys. a couple young, proven guns from the draft plus whatever management sees in King and McNutt... i think receiving corps could be a strength in '14. it has the potential with some quality draft picks at least...

of course... if we dont fix the OL, it will all be a moot point. #justsayin

Maybe with Ramsdell on board we'll go back to a true Coryell and we have 3 solid reliable underneath guys with Underwood burnin them deep. Even moderately creative play calling with this group could result in long sustained drives and home run type plays.
