Agree/disagree: LaFell is better than Cotchery, Underwood, and Avant

Swap LaFell with any of them.  He's on another club last year, and any one of them has been lost in Free Agency.  If he signed now then the Huddle would be declaring him the future number one receiver and a potential all-pro.

Not saying he's great, but none of these guys are either.

Oh God this is exactly right. If LaFell had been, say, a Bengal since he came into the league and we had signed him, the Huddle would be super excited about him.

And this is my point: LaFell, Cotchery, Underwood, Avant...the difference between the best of this group and the worst isn't that much.

I'd take Cotchery and Avant over LaFell any day.  Don't know enough about Tiquan to say.

Even when LaFell was here I would specifically use Avant as a reference point to the type of role player we needed in him since he wasn't a number 1 or 2.

Consistency, reliability, hands, vet presence, mentor-ability > an average 3rd WR option in Donald.

I disagree.

For the offense we run and what we want from our depth WRs, this is a big upgrade over him.

One of the big pluses of LaFell was his blocking, not catching. Cotch and Avant will easily fill that role. Add in they both have better hands and are better slot and red zone threats, this isn't even a debate.

Disagree on the simple premise that there's no possible way to tell. The team isn't complete yet. If we get a legitimate deep threat in the draft, life would be made easier for a guy like Avant and he might put up bigger #'s than Lafell. If we don't come out of the draft with a #1 who can take the top off, well--I imagine the #'s for those guys might be down. There's no possible way to give a definitive answer either way, even for the sake of discussion.

LaFell may be better overall but for our offensive strategy Avant, Cotchery, and Underwood are MUCH better fits. Avant and Cotchery are sure handed receivers and since our main on offense it to keep the defense off the field and consistently score on long grind it out drives they fit perfectly. LaFell killed many drives, Avant and Cotchery will keep them going. Underwood is totally different receiver than LaFell, more comparable to Ginn minus the returns. He can be a vertical deep threat that can be used when we want to go deep much like Ginn.

I am actually pretty excited about the new wrs that we have signed and we still have the draft to come. We still have a few unknowns on the roster that may be a surprise catch. One thing I disagree with the GM is how he handle the Smith situation (mainly because he is my favoriter player and the best player in franchise history) but I have to agree with all of the moves he is making. He is setting us up to be consistent winners and not just visit the playoffs once every 5 years. It is starting to make sense to me. I'm sure a lot of people complained about the pickups we made last offseason and we ended up with a 12-4 records. Let's see what happens. The season isn't won during the offseason.

Even if you want to say lafell is better than cotchery, underwood etc. When you add the money that you would have to pay to keep him this free agency then he becomes overvalued by a wide margin. So I don't even know what is the reason for this topic. Cotchery, underwood etc are great value returns for the money we gave them. It's hard to compare them at all especially if you include salary.

Last years WR core is still better than this one. We haven't seen the new group play but it's reasonable to assume they won't be better right now.

I think people are seriously underestimating the impact Steve Smith still has on the field. Ginn was a useful player. LaFell is an enigma to me.

Cotchery and Avant are nice to have on the team but that is still not fielding a competitive group of WR's for the NFL. We must nail the draft and get at least 1 maybe 2 weapons to add. A TE to pair with Olsen would be nice too.
