The Charlotte Panthers? Come on, Joe.

top dawg

I can tell you guys this--out of college I worked weekends for the Charlotte Observer in the Sports dept.  I have a minor in Journalism, so I am an an expert if you consider 6 classes taught by an 88-year old beat writer from St. Louis expertise.

I worked with the Green combo, Sorenson, David Scott, Rick Bonnell, etc.  I just have an impossible time picturing this guy in that newsroom.  David Poole would have eaten him alive.

If you (Rum) are embarrassed (and you should be, dammit), imagine how the people who work there feel.

His questions at pressers are stupid, he has NO inside contacts, etc, but what bothers me the most, he is almost condescending and arrogant.  he seems to have no idea that he is a laughing stock.  If Tar and feathers were not so damn expensive....

my mother worked as a journalist then an editor for a major newspaper for over 10 years. trust me I know. she would have sleepless nights worried she messed something up.

joe person is a disgrace.

Look guys...there's a reason that newspaper media is going the way of the dinosaur.  Guys like Joe Person aren't exactly on the forefront of the journalism industry.  Yea he sucks at his job but you don't have to read his columns - most people don't anyway.  I've really been liking this Bill Voth guy who just seemed to come out of nowhere.

I disagree. I know NY is not Charlotte and I'm not trying to compare. I'm also not saying one area is better than the other. All I am saying is they have 4 newspapers that are doing well. They have respectable writers who u look forward to their articles in the morning. They also have writers who break sports news. What a novel idea. The Charlotte Observer could be solid but

joe person is truly a disgrace to his profession. If any of us did our jobs as awful as him we would be fired. I would never advocate for someone to be fired because that effects them supporting their families, but can't this clown be reassigned? He seems to tweet about Miley Cyrus, let him go cover concerts or something.

He's apathetic because of the media industry as a whole right now. Should he be anything but apathetic when media outlets do nothing but try to bank on ratings? Ya he sucks. Of course he does, but he's still gonna get hired again after this job and he is no better or worse than that Mark with a C guy on radio. Together they could form the most powerful dynamic duo ever existed.

Wondertwins derp power ACTIVATE!

Their sideburns are where they harness their true power . . . much like JP's sweet sweet super sexy air Jesus sandals. Take his sandals away and he becomes a normal guy.

Well at least JP is the dude in this pic.

...or type them in.

Still, whoever typed it out is on the Observer staff. For them not to know the name of the team the paper covers regularly is embarrassing.

Yep. Probably a part of a universal news desk that is commonplace at newspapers now. Their requirements are, can you lay out pages and can you throw stuff online in a flash. Knowledge of sports teams is not a priority, but clearly they're assuming people have more common sense than they actually do.

Bill Voth didn't come out of nowhere, he was the sports guy at WSOC in Charlotte (ABC affiliate) before he left to start his own social-media company. He just has a lot of contacts inside the franchise and is a bastion of knowledge. He can break things down and explain them better than the Observer's Panthers beat writers.

And why do you think the Observer has Person and Jones covering the Panthers?

One word: $$$$

Gantt probably had a high salary, because he'd been around the paper at a time when they could afford to pay it. He was knocked down to the Herald's Winthrop beat before he left for PFT. So they replaced him with Person, a guy with, whether you believe it or not, a good reputation as a Gamecocks beat writer, and Jones, a kid straight out of college.

We're essentially defending the Panthers for cutting older, more expensive guys in favor of younger, less proven people, and bashing the Observer for doing the same. But you do get what you pay for.

I cant tell you how many times in a week Im shocked at who managers will label as a tech experts on their staff. It gets funnier every time I have to answer questions like "but where do I find the drivers?" . . . psst they got this thing called google out there and that poo works, mang!

I wish I had a nickel for everytime someone told me how smart their kid is because "he's a wiz with computers and the internets n stuff". . and then ask me to clean the malware off their home computer that their kid got and couldnt fix. Hmm I guess I do. . kind of. . have a nickel for everytime.

So I got that going for me, which is nice.
