Personally, we may not have set the world on fire. For multiple reasons. But...I'll take Gman over you. Plus, I kinda like it when folks get all butthurt over roster fill. Like when the wife gets mad cuz I didn't do my chores. They will get done, just not at your bidding.

Those saying "ohh no another #3/#4 WR signing. This is terrible" are dumbasses. You want to go into the season with Pilares, McNutt, and King as the 3 and 4? No? Then STFU. Our only choice is to make the team we have right now better and we just did with this signing.

Wait until after the draft. It's more than likely one of these guys get cut like Drayton Florence did last year.

I see virtually no way any of the three receivers we've signed so far get cut.

I have to believe they brought in Avant and Cotchery to help mentor and teach the young guys that come in to be pros. I still think we draft 1 maybe 2 receivers pretty high in the draft.

 

why bring in 2 guys for that?this seems like a set up to bypass WRs early even tho they could very well be bpa. Avant has been a career #3 for the eagles, nothing more.

I will have to see that to believe that. But why else do you sign TWO veteran WR's. Guys who have been tagged as good locker room guys and leaders. If the end plan is to draft 2 WR's high then I love these signings. If these signings make DG hold off another year to draft a WR or two I hate them.

Yep. Right now our top 5 WRs are:

Cotchery

Avant

Underwood

Pilares

King

Pilares and King are the ones in danger of not making the team. Avant, Underwood, and Cotchery are all here to stay.

I believe WR is our choice for at least one of our top 2 draft picks. I don't think we want to rely on Pilares or King or McNutt if injuries come. We now have an environment that is suitable for a rookie WR to come in and learn.

Now we just need to protect Cam so he can get these guys the ball. Hopefully we will sign some depth at the line position if there is some out there. I also like to note we more than likely upgraded our CB and S pos this year as well.

Probably because they aren't totally sold on King nor McNutt and bringing in both Avant and Cotchery allows us to have a bigger veteran presence in the locker room at the position while allowing us to have two sure-handed vets on the field when we need them most. Even with a highly drafted WR the position is going to be by committee at least for this season. A highly selected rookie plus Avant, Cotchery, and Olsen is solid and at least reliable week in and week out.

Looking at some plays from last year, it seems like Avant helped to skew Fole's numbers alot. Some horrible passes by Fole that Avant magically brings down. If those three guys don't get cut, expect Pilares, King, or Mcnutt to be gone. A team doesn't keep 7-8 receivers on their main squad.

Solid veteran possession receiver. He may not be better than LaFell at this point but he is a better fit for Cam and the Panthers than LaFell was.

Avant is reportedly one of the most sure-handed receivers in the NFL, so that makes him better bet than LaFell in my book, notwithstanding that LaFell may have better YAC (though I am not sure).
