Panthers Sign Avant to 1 Year Deal

Recommended Posts

Morgan Moses would be a possible pick if Lewan or Martin are gone.

Moses is a guy who will start at RT for a season and isn't rated that much higher then players you can get in the 2nd round who can do the same thing.

There are at least 6 wr rated higher then him.

Were you shocked last year when we had a winning record and Cam was in the MVP conversation? Why should this year be any different? Because...?

Let me see if I can explain this to you. Last year we had a solid #2, and a couple #3. We were not a great passing team. But we did not pass nearly as much as most team. We were efficiently effective. And we went 12-4.

Right now we have 2 solid #2, and a handful of WR with potential. The team really likes Pilares, and the potential of Underwood, McNutt, and King. The sum of this years corp. very well could be better than the sum of last years corp..

Just because you don't see it, does not make it so. Just like the draft. Just because you fear we may not draft a WR high in the draft, does not mean we won't.

The thing is. You don't know. You have a penchant for speaking your mind with no regard to how it sounds. Fine by me. Just don't expect me to buy into the fact that we won't draft a WR this year, just because we didn't drat one last year.

I don't usually reply to you. For the plain fact you disregard others opinions too easily. But I take exception to you saying what we will, or will not, do.

With the talent at WR this year. There really is a good chance that BPA is actually a WR.

I concur wholeheartedly. We may have a WR corp. that can help Cam. But, we still need an influx of young talent at the position. 1, or even 2, WR need to be added through the draft. With Avant, and Cotch, we actually have the vet presence to actually aid in the development of the young corp..

We are close. But, IMO, we are still in need of an infusion of talent.

that's a serious question? lol. We've had the pieces in place since Cam's first year here to be great. They just hadn't yet figured out how to win but always came close which was so frustrating. Last year they were able to crack the code & finally get it done. I'm suppose to believe that w/ an entire new set of recievers & a QB coming off of surgery they are gonna be able to pull it together & make it happen again?....plz! I'm just not that delusional

Wow another #4 we, y'all have to be crazy to think all these no names make our offense better than last year. This free agency gets a f u gman u suck as a gm

Sent from my XT907 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

The way I see it is last year we had a slot reciever either a #2 or #3 in Smitty, mixed with another slot receiver in a Ginn, which coming in was a #3-#4, and a "possession" receiver in Donald who was questionable a #4 but was a good blocker, and Hixon who saw one big catch. What we have now is atleast on par with that, and if we take a WR in 1st or 2nd, we will have better than last year. But don't be surprised to see Gettleman double dip on offensive lineman and wait until the third for a WR. I've never been this excited about a draft.

We have three solid WR now, including a project in McNutt. It's safe to say we're going OT in first round, unless somebody big and high on G-Man's board falls, which is a high possibility. God I want the draft to get here so bad.

God I hope Gettelmen isn't thinking like this. You know only Cotchery (2 year) got more then a 1 year deal?

So it doesn't seem like he's vested in these guys.

IMO, we have been a pretty good team for 1 1/2 years. We are 17-6 since Cam watched Peyton carve us up. So last year was not that surprising for me.

You make Cam's ankle surgery sound like some kind of major deal. He has been playing on it for 4 years. It was minor surgery to tighten up some loose cartilage. He will be fine. Don't you fret one little minute over that.

If you are worried about the chemistry between Cam and the WR? Don't. There will be plenty of time for them to get there timing down. Cam is a vet now. All the WRs need to do is be in the right place at the right time, and Cam will find them. Too many folks have made this an issue this year. It is really not that big of a deal. These guys are pros, they know what they are doing.

As for you being delusional? I think there are medications for that. The only folks worried about us taking a step back this year are the normal fretters. We are every bit as good as we were last year. And we still have the draft, cuts, and FA still to go.

I see no reason not to think that we can once again vie for a playoff spot. We still have a great Defense. We still have Cam. And all we really lost was Gross, and an aging, not a #1 Smitty. We will be fine. Check that. We will be right where we expect to be. Right in the thick of things.

Cam is a legitimate MVP candidate. Don't downplay that importance. Teamed with our D. We be good to go.

yeah we didn't lose a #1 in Smitty but we've def up to this point put in place 3 other guys who aren't even as good as him @ 35. Then we'll bring in a rookie who surely won't get it right away. & yes our O-Line which wasnt that great last season has gotten even worse w/ the loss of Gross so I have all the reason in the world to be confident....NOT!

Cotchery is 5 years but the last 3 are voidable. Underwoods has a 2 year contract.

There isn't a soul in the forum that has a feel for what this team has in the locker room like D. Gettleman and staff.  Other than Cam, Kuechly, Kalil and a few others every position will be a battle in 2014. Specifically WR. You have your draft guides from 2006 till now sitting in front of you.  You have your online stats and you have your know it all outlook but none of us has a true feel for what we have on our 2014 WR group.

We all speculate. Just depends on whether your an optimist or a pessimist.

This group of receivers has some speed, some great hands and some leadership.  What we don't have is a lot of game time yardage from many of them.  Every great WR had to eventually get their first reception in a career.  Why can't these young players get theirs here.

My Take,.... It is a good signing.  Another Veteran who can help.  A veteran that can get open and make that critical catch when we need it.  If we have 5 receivers with 550 yds a piece that's all good to me. Throw in Olsen's 8-900 yds per season and another 4 or 500 from the backs.  Your QB is over 4000 yds.   I would be happy with it.

I think we draft a WR before the end of the second day.  I outside a CB and WR we are going to saturate the draft with the BIG BOYS.   I also think we will add a couple UDFA that might stick.

When the season starts in 5 1/2 months we will have a solid team ready to defend our crown.
