Panthers Sign Avant to 1 Year Deal

Recommended Posts

So you have no point at all since no one said what you put...like usual you reply to someone and say poo they didn't say as if they said it....then you swap to the whole "that's not what I said" nonsense when you get replied to when it was you who said something the other person did not say....

Wonder how Smith would have turned out here if Moose and Proehl snubbed him...

That's what he does...in literally every thread...

If you want to do nothing more than start poo with me out of the blue I'm sure you can find someone else here for that.

like i said in another thread, using our record last year doesn't do a damn thing this year but put a big target on us for other teams, and with the moves we made so far in FA's i can't see us going bpa at the moment. I'm happy about the signing, but i'm also a realist. to say these guys are better then our receivers last year is a stretch except lafell cause he sucked. The 1 yr deals are not helping cam either or making it easier, qb/wr chemistry goes a lot farther then people think.

Avant is reportedly one of the most sure-handed receivers in the NFL, so that makes him better bet than LaFell in my book, notwithstanding that LaFell may have better YAC (though I am not sure).

about 200 of lafell's yards last year came from running in a straight line while other people demolished blockers

I think after this year, players that click with team will start getting a better second contract from the Panthers.

I may be the only one that is not ecstatic about this signing. I just don't feel it, still it is a signing and at a position of need. IF one thing is for sure is that there will be no wide outs taken in the first round maybe even the second round. For sure not the first.

I hope you're wrong.

I can't fathom Gettelmen letting the FA signing of Avant Cotchery or Fade. Stop him from drafting a WR in the 1st round. They only got 1 or 2 year deals. So I know he's not thinking of them as long term players.

These are short deals to aging players that project as number 3/4 wideouts. He is building the depth, not the front end. Just like he did last year with Colin Cole and Dwan Edwards. We still drafted Star and KK in rounds 1 and 2. I'm not afraid of ignoring WR if it is BPA at 28 or 60.

True as that may be Xclown, it just happened that DT was a need and was the BPA at the same time. This year, I seriously doubt we take a WR in the first now. Since it is such a deep draft at that particular position, it would suggest that Gettleman will beef up the Oline first then get a play maker in the second or third or both. Which is fine, I just would have liked a wide out in the first. Given the nature of our picking order, we are essentially getting the cream of the crop of the next round. I.E. The best of the second at 28. Best of the third at 60 and so on and so forth.

If it ain't Martin or Lewan not many OT rate higher then some of the WR. After the 1st 4 OT the rest are rated as 2nd to 3rd round players. There are 6 to 7 1st round rated WR'S.

BPA will most likely come down to 1 of the WR dropping in our laps.
