Panthers Sign Avant to 1 Year Deal

Recommended Posts

so was the OT corp. Bell, Chandler, Garry Williams, Bond, and the guy from the dolphins. right now that OT cupboard is dry but at one point, it was that bad.

Well at least Bell, Chandler and Williams have experience. The WR corp had none.

I don't see any good OT that was signed that was in our price range. WR FA had/has far more options.

if we somehow find our way to a winning season this yr I will be shocked out of my mind & Cam will be the topic of MVP discussions everywhere

Were you shocked last year when we had a winning record and Cam was in the MVP conversation? Why should this year be any different? Because...?

See you guys get confused and your panties get into a bunch. Nobody is attacking the signing. I'm attacking the notion that the WR group right now is better than last year. If you believe that nonsense then I guess we won't be drafting a WR because we sure as hell didn't draft one last year.

Let me see if I can explain this to you. Last year we had a solid #2, and a couple #3. We were not a great passing team. But we did not pass nearly as much as most team. We were efficiently effective. And we went 12-4.

Right now we have 2 solid #2, and a handful of WR with potential. The team really likes Pilares, and the potential of Underwood, McNutt, and King. The sum of this years corp. very well could be better than the sum of last years corp..

Just because you don't see it, does not make it so. Just like the draft. Just because you fear we may not draft a WR high in the draft, does not mean we won't.

The thing is. You don't know. You have a penchant for speaking your mind with no regard to how it sounds. Fine by me. Just don't expect me to buy into the fact that we won't draft a WR this year, just because we didn't drat one last year.

I don't usually reply to you. For the plain fact you disregard others opinions too easily. But I take exception to you saying what we will, or will not, do.

With the talent at WR this year. There really is a good chance that BPA is actually a WR.

i am. he's a guy i wanted all along. in fact i wanted to draft him when he came out. not flashy, but as solid and reliable player as you will find. he catches anything coming to him and knows his role. he's the meat and potatoes type player that gets the ball moving forward and gives the QB someone he can count on.

having said all that, i still think we need to draft a WR early and double dip there. cam needs more weapons. he needs some lethal options and as good as i think avant is, he isn't lethal.

I concur wholeheartedly. We may have a WR corp. that can help Cam. But, we still need an influx of young talent at the position. 1, or even 2, WR need to be added through the draft. With Avant, and Cotch, we actually have the vet presence to actually aid in the development of the young corp..

We are close. But, IMO, we are still in need of an infusion of talent.

It sure looks that way right now.

OT wild card--Zack Martin. I see him possibly sliding because he is a bit of a tweener.

Martin or Lewan drop to us you go OT no question. After that WR is the better value you pick IMO.

that has stumped me as well. i could really see a guy like Lee falling down the board and then taking an OT in the 2nd. might be better value their for that 2nd-3rd tier OT compared to the late 1st unless Martin or Lewan falls.

I think there is a small chance Martin falls.  His arms are a bit short--sort of a tweener.

I really like Lee--

Especially considering how rich the second round looks to be at WR....

Imagine Martin in the first and Adams in the second, for example.

Still, I wonder if the Panthers aren't doing some homework on Tiny and Cyrus' knees.  Not first round, but have Dr. Andrews check them out and if they seem OK, jump in the second.

I don't think that Gettleman thinks our offensive line is a pressing concern. We have the center and guard positions covered at least twice over at every position. I think that if he looks at Bell or Chandler for right tackle then we really have only the left tackle position as a need. I don't think that he figures anyone is out there that makes sense in free agency so we will go into the draft with a need for left tackle. Since we can find a guy in the top 3 or 4 rounds it really isn't a problem which forces us to go there in the first unless someone is there who dropped. We might even find the guy after the draft.

Gonna have to disagree. Sure, Center is fine, but Guard? Our recent draftees finished the year on IR (hell one hasn't played), Wharton is a FA, and I'd hardly consider Scott and Williams as having the position "covered." By that logic we don't need Avant since we have the 3-4 WR position covered with equally unproven players.

Also, when your tackles are Chandler and Bell, you could at least bring in some minimum guys for depth.

Never said mentoring doesn't help sir.

So you have no point at all since no one said what you put...like usual you reply to someone and say poo they didn't say as if they said it....then you swap to the whole "that's not what I said" nonsense when you get replied to when it was you who said something the other person did not say....

At the end of the day, every man is responsible for himself.

Wonder how Smith would have turned out here if Moose and Proehl snubbed him...

Like usual you pick out some barely relevant detail and miss the whole point of the post.

That's what he does...in literally every thread...
