Panthers Sign Avant to 1 Year Deal

Recommended Posts

i just want the same approach taken for WR to be taken for OT (or at least bring in some competition instead of waiting for the draft).that way you, can really take bpa and be comfortable with your roster.

but i also felt like bringing in Cole and resigning Dwon would lead to the panthers not taking a DT early, so hopefully im wrong again and a top ranked OT or WR will slide down the board.

I'm sure that it's being attempted but sometimes finances and talent don't mesh. This looks to be the case in the oline market. The money that these guys earned was crazy and we never could have paid it. We do have a lot of waiver wire un drafted untested lineman waiting for a shot so instead of getting a "victor Cruz WR". We could get a victor Cruz lineman.

Well our WR corp was literally bare bones with just King, McNutt, Pilares. We needed vet presence there badly.

Other than Clabo, don't really see any OT to bring in that'll be vet min and have good upside.

i am. he's a guy i wanted all along. in fact i wanted to draft him when he came out. not flashy, but as solid and reliable player as you will find. he catches anything coming to him and knows his role. he's the meat and potatoes type player that gets the ball moving forward and gives the QB someone he can count on.

having said all that, i still think we need to draft a WR early and double dip there. cam needs more weapons. he needs some lethal options and as good as i think avant is, he isn't lethal.

I agree. The signing are ok but we need to try to put some threats around Cam. We can be a ball control big play offense if we can draft some big play threats.

Do you have at least one card of every player to wear the uniform (if a card was made of course)?

yes if any player has worn a Panther uniform and a card was made of them I own one, some players I obsess over and have too many.

I'm one card short of owning every rookie card of Matt Moore that was made, that damn Upper Deck Artifacts autographed card is nearly impossible to find and when it does show up the seller wants a $100 bill for it only 30 of them made.

Should of keep Smitty. A bunch of 3rd and 4th wr's on one year contracts, none of them better than the future hof they replaced. Their solid don't get me wrong but were never gonna be able to build future consistency, and go to the next level on one year contracts. We better get something good in the draft if we ever want to get where we need to be passing game wise

I wish I could answer that question, DaCity, but it has me stumped.  They tried to get Collins, but after that they sorta quit looking.  Maybe they felt that the roster and/or the draft has better talent than what was out there.   They seem to be acting like they know something nobody else knows.

No, I am not a fan of Morgan Moses in the first round.  I honestly think a good WR will drop to us--Marqise Lee maybe?

The OT will probably be a second rounder, in my opinion.  Billy Turner, Joe Bitonio, James Hurst, Jack Mewhort, etc.  Part of me wonders if they have checked out Cyrus or Tiny's knees and we will take a chance.  Frank Alexander, Star Lotulelei, now Cyrus in the second--we have a pretty good knee doctor here.  Heck, Gettlemen may feel a second round pick for a player with 4 years on his hoof is worth it--does not have to give him a big second contract (not sure I believe that).

If he can sign DeCoud, the secondary will become a veteran group playing smart behind that front 7.  I like the additions there.  They are solid players.

that has stumped me as well. i could really see a guy like Lee falling down the board and then taking an OT in the 2nd. might be better value their for that 2nd-3rd tier OT compared to the late 1st unless Martin or Lewan falls.

their was some cheap talent out their at one point, but most decent OL have been signed by now. i have the wait until the draft approach, but i just do not see how you can draft strictly with such a need at OT.

so was the OT corp. Bell, Chandler, Garry Williams, Bond, and the guy from the dolphins. right now that OT cupboard is dry but at one point, it was that bad.

Kinda odd he hasn't brought in any OL guys then, which is the more pressing concern at this point.

I don't think that Gettleman thinks our offensive line is a pressing concern.  We have the center and guard positions covered at least twice over at every position.  I think that if he looks at Bell or Chandler for right tackle then we really have only the left tackle position as a need.  I don't think that he figures anyone is out there that makes  sense in free agency so we will go into the draft with a need for left tackle.  Since we can find a guy in the top 3 or 4 rounds it really isn't a problem which forces us to go there in the first unless someone is there who dropped.  We might even find the guy after the draft.

Specifically if they are going to start out on the right side.

Imo unless Lewan or Martin drop to us Bell will be starting at LT and who ever we draft will start out on the right.

Gross was drafted in the top 10 and he started on the right side for a year and their is no prospect we can get at 28 that was better then him coming out.

I'm willing to bet that unless Lewan or Martin drop no rookie we draft will be on the left side this year.
